DOCTOR: I went down to the beach and there she stood, dark and tall at the edge of the wood. "The sky's too big, I'm scared," I cried. She replied, "Young man, don't you know there's more to life than the moon and the President's wife?"

DOCTOR: Never be cruel. Never be cowardly. Hate is always foolish. Love is always wise. Always try to be nice, but never fail to be kind.

DOCTOR: Winning? Is that what you think it's about? I'm not trying to win. I'm not doing this because I want to beat someone, or because I hate someone, or because, because I want to blame someone. It's not because it's fun and God knows it's not because it's easy. It's not even because it works, because it hardly ever does. I do what I do, because it's right! Because it's decent! And above all, it's kind. It's just that. Just kind. If I run away today, good people will die. If I stand and fight, some of them might live. Maybe not many, maybe not for long. Hey, you know, maybe there's no point in any of this at all, but it's the best I can do, so I'm going to do it. And I will stand here doing it till it kills me. You're going to die too, some day. MISSY: Well, I am that mysterious adventurer in all of time and space, known only as Doctor Who. And these are my disposables, Exposition and Comic Relief.

LEELA: I do not want him to find me. It is I who must find him. Am I so helpless? Yes. Here, in these stifling, sunless rooms of yours, perhaps I am. I have only one body. This one. I cannot change it. It will not wear your clothes, or walk your stilted pathways. I have only one voice inside me. This one. And my words can never be as clever as yours. I have only one mind, and it is steadfast, but small next to yours. I cannot grasp the games you play with people and their lives, and I do not wish to.

ROMANA: They’re not games I choose to play. I’m trying to defend myself. Trying to protect my world!

LEELA: Yes. It is your world, and not mine. Although I have lived here for many years, it has never been my home, and I am unhappy.

ROMANA: Leela. Are you saying you’re afraid of me?

LEELA: You are also two people. The person I know, and the person you once were. Who

is… so different.

ROMANA: You’ve always known I was a Time Lord. Regeneration is a natural part of the

progression of our lives. Completely without consequence.

LEELA: One person cannot become many without consequence.

LEELA: I was so alone in the world of dreams when you left… The wildlands were dark and so quiet. I… I do not wish to be alone.

ROMANA: There will be a place for you with me. For always. Whatever face I wear.

NARVIN: This piece of equipment is essential to my mission.

ROMANA: Aha, and what might that be?

NARVIN: I might very well ask the same of you. This time zone is subject to the most stringent embargoes!

ROMANA: None of which apply to the President. I am free to go wherever and whenever I choose, without submitting a mountain of paperwork first, and I do find the Alpine air so refreshing.

NARVIN: Madam, the Alps are in the other direction.

ROMANA: Are they? Damn.

LEELA: I see you. I see my enemy in my enemy's clothes, and my heart runs cold, because I see, too, that the man I loved… is dead.

LEELA: I do not lie. I shall kill you, Time Lord.

TORVALD: Leela, please.

LEELA: I shall dangle your entrails before your dying eyes.

TORVALD: That’s… really horrible.

ROMANA: K9 is a vicious robot criminal from the fifth galaxy. Aren’t you, K9?

K9: Affirmative!

LEELA: Is this a TARDIS? But it is the same size on the inside!

TORVALD: I don't mind the squeeze if you don't, Savage.

LEELA: My name is Leela, Weasel Mouth.

LEELA: Romana, this TARDIS is broken.

ROMANA: It's meant to get you there and back. You are not traveling as Time Lords now.

TARDIS: Friendship is standing shoulder to shoulder in the face of life and death. Friendship is there when love's candle has burned and gutted. Friendship stays loyal when the enemy is at the gates. Friendship is never sacrificed, never surrendered. I was your friend.

BERNICE: So, do you have a girlfriend?

DOCTOR: No.

BERNICE: Boyfriend?

DOCTOR: No

BERNICE: Model Railway Set?

DOCTOR: Somewhere. The TARDIS is full of surprises.

BERNICE: But you’re not the sort of person that keeps a big table, with tiny trees and signal boxes and things?

DOCTOR: No.

BERNICE: Ah, then you must be interested in law and order.

DOCTOR: No. I like chaos. Big explosions. Rebellions. That sort of thing. Why do you ask?

BERNICE: Because I want to know why you go around in a police box!

DOCTOR: You know what one is?

BERNICE: It’s from my favourite era.

DOCTOR: I could’ve changed it ages ago. But I like the shape. And the motto. Call here for help. That’s what I do. I let the little children sleep safely at night, because I’ve searched through all the shadows and chased the baddies away. I’m what monsters have nightmares about! But everybody’s a monster sometimes. We all do things we regret. And sometimes we have to lose things very precious to us.

COUNTESS: I was rather under the impression that Mister Duggan was following me.

DOCTOR: Ah. Well, you’re a beautiful woman, probably, and Duggan was trying to summon up the courage to ask you out to dinner, weren’t you, Duggan?

MASTER: Doctor, why don't you come in with me? We're both Time Lords, we're both renegades. We could be masters of the galaxy! Think of it, Doctor, absolute power! Power for good. Why, you could reign benevolently, you could end wars, suffering, disease. We could save the universe.

DOCTOR: No, absolute power is evil.

MASTER: Consider carefully, Doctor. I'm offering you a half-share in the universe.

DOCTOR: Are you happy with us, Victoria?

VICTORIA: Yes, I am. At least, I would be if my father were here.

DOCTOR: Yes, I know, I know.

VICTORIA: I wonder what he would have thought if he could see me now.

DOCTOR: You miss him very much, don't you?

VICTORIA: It's only when I close my eyes. I can still see him standing there, before those horrible Dalek creatures came to the house. He was a very kind man, I shall never forget him. Never.

DOCTOR: No, of course you won't. But, you know, the memory of him won't always be a sad one.

VICTORIA: I think it will. You can't understand, being so ancient.

DOCTOR: Eh?

VICTORIA: I mean old.

DOCTOR: Oh.

VICTORIA: You probably can't remember your family.

DOCTOR: Oh yes, I can when I want to. And that's the point, really. I have to really want to, to bring them back in front of my eyes. The rest of the time they sleep in my mind, and I forget. And so will you. Oh yes, you will. You'll find there's so much else to think about. So remember, our lives are different to anybody else's. That's the exciting thing. There's nobody in the universe can do what we're doing. You must get some sleep and let this poor old man stay awake.

DOCTOR: Even after all this time he cannot understand. I dare not change the course of history. Well, at least I taught him to take some precautions. He did remember to look at the scanner before he opened the doors. Now they're all gone. All gone. None of them could understand. Not even my little Susan, or Vicki. And as for Barbara and Chatterton. Chesterton. They were all too impatient to get back to their own time. And now, Steven. Perhaps I should go home, back to my own planet. But I can't. I can't.
