The Goblins are cute. I like their airship of wood and rope. How steampunk!

I was not sold on Ruby Sunday as a character from just this first episode. A character introduction is supposed to make me like her. It's like they were trying to take the best bits of Clara and Rose and mush them together hoping to strike magic again, but instead she just felt generic. I like her mum and granny though. They stole the show. I really felt empathy for Ruby's Mum in the kitchen scene. (I've forgot her name.) Not going to forget the name Cherry Sunday though. Please someone get this poor woman some tea.

Also yay, foster kid representation!

Which just hammers home how generic Ruby is, if I was primed to like her as a fellow foster kid, and yet, I feel nothing.

Very fun. One of the better Christmas specials.

This review contains spoilers!

I thought it was enjoyable enough, I do really like Ncutis Perfomance in this one, showing how much charm he has in the Role. There were some nice use of time travel and overall it was pretty good at what it wanted to achieve. I am not so keen on the Goblins and especially the Goblin Song, I will give it a pass since it makes sense why it wasn't so stellar in universe.

Honestly, even now, while far from "Perfect" or even "Great", I still have plenty of Fun with this one. Messy in places, but still quite enjoyable!

I'm actually going crazy did no one else notice the crazy antisemitism in this episode or what. Like i guess after centuries British people still have to write about goblins eating babies. After some years of the show trying to show how it's so progressive and socially aware now you'd think the most basic of racist tropes would be done away with. Genuinely so disappointing especially to see in a Christmas special so it feels especially on purpose. I honestly have other issues with this episode but I'm not even going to mention them because I feel like I'm going insane going through reviews and seeing no one mention this.

I don't like Christmas stories period, but I thought it was cute. Loses a point purely for the goblin woman being the only one to sound like a human woman rather than a goblin woman.

DOCTOR: Once upon a time, late on Christmas Eve, a stranger came to the church on Ruby Road. She carried in her arms the most precious gift of all. A newborn child. A baby girl. Just before midnight, she left her daughter on the steps of the church. The child was taken in, and they named her Ruby, after the place where she was found. As for the mother, she was never seen again. No one ever knew her name, until that night a time traveller came to call. A traveller known as the Doctor.
