Review of The Massacre by abominablebas

if there was ever a serial that should be animated…

anyways, 60 years in, can we get hartnell and purves their flowers for their devastating performances in this one? please? incredible story for steven, by which i mean absolutely harrowing, but great for his character.

Review of The Anachronauts by abominablebas

29 May 2025

If you’re going go listen to any first doctor audio, please oh PLEASE let it be this one. Do not look up anything about it before hand. Go in as blind as you can.

That said: This is an EXCELLENT audio with absolutely stellar performances from Jean Marsh & Peter Purves. Jean steals the show, ESPECIALLY in the 4th part, but that’s not to say Purves’ part is lacking. If you are a fan of either Steven or Sara (or both, as their fans are wont to be) then give this a listen. Great grasp of both of their characters and such an interesting, horrific rabbit hole of a plot.

Review of The Chase by abominablebas

29 May 2025

this one has it all: daleks, the beatles, the doctor being silly, vicki in peril, ian in peril, peter purves doing the worst southern accent you’ve ever heard, dracula, barbara in peril, a 1965 episode called “the death of doctor who”, peter purves playing the saddest wettest patheticest man you’ve ever seen (steven taylor my love), and of course, london, 1965! peak

Review of The Empire of Glass by abominablebas

29 May 2025

I read this book originally in 2020, shortly after finishing Hartnell’s era. The fact that I keep coming back to it five years later should tell you all you need to know. Andy Lane has an incredible grasp of Vicki and Steven, so much so that it’s affected my interpretations of Steven ever since I read it—in a good way!! In a very good way. Incredible prose spread throughout. Some things don’t feel necessary but are totally blown out of the water by the fantastic parts of this book. Mainly Steven and Vicki.
