Doctor: Don't be so defeatist. You've got two of the finest minds ever to graduate the Academy of the Time Lords of Gallifrey. There's not a puzzle in the universe we can't solve given a little time.

Missy: Two of the finest minds? Did you ever actually graduate, Doctor? I never can remember.

The Doctor took Yaz’s hand and gave it a squeeze. ‘It’s the least we can do.’

Yaz leaned in and embraced the Doctor.

She lingered there a moment, not wanting to let go.

It was the Doctor who pulled away, waving the gadget in her hands. ‘Need to get this to Judy.’

Yaz nodded, and as the Doctor hurried out of the TARDIS she found she couldn’t take her eyes off her.

DOCTOR: But the point is, if it was going to be anyone, it'd be you. But I can't.

YASMIN: Why not?

DOCTOR: Because at some point time always runs out.

DAN: She likes you.

DOCTOR: I like her, too.

DAN: No, I mean... she likes you.

DOCTOR: I don't understand what you're saying, Dan.

DAN: I think you do. But for some reason you pretend to me, and to her, that you don't.

DOCTOR: I'm probably worried for you, if you're hearing this. And I'm sure I miss you.

YASMIN: I miss you too.

DOCTOR: I know you do. I hope you said I miss you too, or else that bit's weird.

DOCTOR: Whatever you want with me, fine. But save my friends. Don't let the Cybermen take them. If the history between us means anything to you...

MASTER: I do believe you're appealing to my better nature. And we both know I don't have one. I'm not going to help them, and neither are you. And the history between us does mean something. It's the rage and pain in my hearts.

DOCTOR: Missy. Missy. You've changed. I know you have. And I know what you're capable of. Stand with me. It's all I've ever wanted.

MISSY: Me too. But no. Sorry. Just, no. (she takes his hand) But thanks for trying.

MISSY: I am your friend.

DOCTOR: Makes no difference.

MISSY: I know it doesn't. I know I'm going to die. I have to say it, the truth. Without hope. Without witness. Without reward. I am your friend.

CHARLEY: I'm alright. What was that?

DOCTOR: Something very large landing on the houses across the street.

CHARLEY: Yes, but what very large something?

DOCTOR: I shall find out using my super-Time-Lord-powers of "looking out of the window."

CHARLEY: Come on. Take my hand.

DOCTOR: But we can see now. We don’t need to hold on to each other.

CHARLEY: I know. Take my hand anyway.

DOCTOR: I didn't expect to care for you as much as I did. That was my mistake. When it came to it, with the Web of Time hanging in the balance, having to make a choice between you and the universe, I'd say hang the Web of Time, you're more important. Let the universe rot. Charley, you're worth more than all that. I sacrificed myself for you, to save your life. And I did it gladly. I thought I'd never see you again. That it wouldn't matter so long as I knew you were safe.

CHARLEY: I don't understand. You're saying you did care for me, after all. That you loved me.

DOCTOR: Of course I loved you! I killed myself for you, didn't I? Of course I loved you. Of course I love you.

Charley: I thought I'd lost so much. But I've adjusted now. I can be happy. That's better, surely?

Doctor: But Charley, you have lost a lot. You have lost everything. Your family, your friends. Charley, you will never see another of your kind. Never. You will never fall in love with a man, get married, have children. Hang on to your losses. They make you what you are. Even if we spend the rest of our lives here, and I'm rather afraid we will, don't let them take away that regret and that pain. All that identity. Don't settle for this existence when once you've tasted life, because you are Charley Pollard, and you deserve better than that.

CHARLEY: Thank you, Doctor. Thank you for that strength. But I have my own strength too, and I refuse.

THE SOUND CREATURE: What?

DOCTOR: You refuse, Charley? You'd do that for me?

CHARLEY: I do not accept your sacrifice. Not this time

THE SOUND CREATURE: No! You can't!

CHARLEY: Let her burn in the R101. Let her be executed by the Time Lords. Live on. With regret, but live on.

THE SOUND CREATURE: No!

CHARLEY: Right or wrong, whatever happens to Charley Pollard, I choose the Doctor to live.

DOCTOR: Cheer up. Look, there's a mouse.

CHARLEY: I am deeply cheered.

CHARLEY: It was all about love in the end, wasn’t it?
