Synopsis

Visiting the English seaside town of Cromer in the summer of 1932, the Doctor happens upon the strange world of the Cromer Palace of Curios. The young Ernestina Scott is unusually beguiled by one of the museum's exhibits, and when the Doctor befriends her, they unwittingly embark upon a terrifying escapade. Chased by animated dolls through a nightmarish model house, the Doctor realises he is being hunted by a familiar enemy. As a performer myself this story got me highly invested over that alone but it ended up being an amazingly told horror with bonus of it being set near me too

This review contains spoilers!

This is part of a series of reviews of Doctor Who in chronological timeline order.

Previous Story: The Stuff of Nightmares

The Doctor's tales continue, this time taking us into the past as the mystery of the hornets slowly unravels. This story continues on with that campfire-horror feel. Mrs Wibbsey is a strange character, it's revealed that she was once possessed by the hornets but you can't really tell what her true intentions are.

The scenes in the dollhouse remind me of Night Terrors, which was my first ever Doctor Who story. The Doctor and the hornets meeting out of order is also quite interesting, and similar to the Doctor's encounters with River Song.

Next Story: The Circus of Doom
