Synopsis

Somewhere in the south of England stands the Hothouse. Five vast, state-of-the-art biodomes, all steel and glass. Inside, rock star turned environmental activist Alex Marlow has a plan to save the world from climate change. By any means necessary...

There's something growing inside the Hothouse. Something that could turn back humanity's tide. A voracious alien vegetable called the Krynoid. The Doctor's going to have to stop it. Stop Marlow. Stop Marlow's fanatical acolyte, Lucie Miller...

Save the world. By any means necessary.

Some excellent body horror in this one. The villains had understandable if misguided intentions to save the planet, which has been corrupted by the influence of the Krynoids. I audibly gasped when Lucie was revealed to be working for that rockstar/ environmentalist guy (I've already forgotten his name and the name of the organization he works for) but of course she was just undercover. I felt as if I could smell the lush plant matter of the titular Hothouse.

While by no means a bad Audio, this is just feels a bit too forgettable for my liking. McGann and Smith give solid Performances here, and there are Things that I do like in this one, such as bringing in the Krynoids. Sadly, it doesn't offer much and feels like that Type of Story that goes in one Ear in and leaves the other pretty quickly.

Underwhelming, for such a wonderful premise of Krynoids from their first story, which was truly a classic, this doesn't deliver. Krynoids are such a wonderfully unique, and brilliant idea, which aren't utilised nearly as well in this story - they did not feel anywhere near as menacing or developed here.

Some interesting ideas aside, this is a little disappointing.

This one just hit different. The dialog is incredible, and the characters are all captivating. Just an immaculate tone. Incredible all around.
