Review of Legend of the Sea Devils by Verged

17 June 2025

Yeah, that sucked. Idk, don't know what to really say. It is an episode of Doctor Who, and doesn't try to be anything more than that.

Review of The Vanquishers by Verged

17 June 2025

If you can manage to describe the plot of this as anything other than "Things happen" then I commend you. Far too preoccupied with spinning as many plates as possible that it hasn't stopped to even consider how to put them down without smashing anything, and the end result is a rather confusing mess. No seriously, is the universe still destroyed by the end of this story? I have no idea.

Review of Village of the Angels by Verged

17 June 2025

I think I like the idea of Flux more than the execution, and while I don't rate most Flux episodes, I guess I rate this one. It's not bad, it does the Weeping Angels really well, even drawing from their Series 5 characterisation which was a bit surprising, I was expecting a pure 'Blink' redux. It gets ruined slightly when it becomes about stupid Division lore, but I can recommend this one.

Review of The Timeless Children by Verged

17 June 2025

Factually the absolute worst episode of Doctor Who ever. Forever damaged my enjoyment of the show, and as canon is what we make of it I'm declaring this to be ... no, not non-canon, more like anti-canon.

It's a shame I can't rate it 0 stars, I'd go to -5 if possible.

Review of Orphan 55 by Verged

17 June 2025

Don't think there's been an episode as shoddily put together as this one, it genuinely feels unfinished, like if they had aired 'Shada' back in 1979. But even it was finished, this story just sucks.

Review of The Tsuranga Conundrum by Verged

I don't rate this episode, but I sure am a fan of the Pting. Please bring him back for Series 16 if it ever happens.

Review of The Doctor Falls by Verged

17 June 2025

As of 2025, I can honestly say this was the last time a finale was superb, let alone decent. If you're looking to end things on a high note, well, this is it.

Review of The Return of Doctor Mysterio by Verged

If the credits listed Peter Capaldi as 'Doctor Mysterio', easy 12/10. Such a shame.

Review of Hell Bent by Verged

17 June 2025

If there was one episode I'd defend to my last breath, it would be 'Hell Bent'. 'Heaven Sent' has received unanimous praise and deservedly so, but I'd argue that it's not as great or as complete as 'Hell Bent'. Clara is now and forever my favourite companion and favourite Doctor!

Review of Flatline by Verged

17 June 2025

Doctor Who takes one of it's most infamous weaknesses (poor special effects) and turns it into one of it's greatest strengths. Like 'Midnight' and 'Turn Left', when you're lacking in money you make up for it by being rich with creative ideas. An episode that is truly 3-Dimensional.

Review of The Crimson Horror by Verged

Definitely not one that's universally loved, but a personal favourite of mine. It's camp, it's fun, it's a bit ridiculous, but unapologetically so.

Review of Journey to the Centre of the TARDIS by Verged

Sometimes, a title is better than the story it represents. This is one of those times.

Review of The Doctor’s Wife by Verged

17 June 2025

This review contains spoilers!

Few episodes can claim to have made a permanent change to your perspective of Doctor Who. 'The Doctor's Wife' is one of the few, changing our perception of arguably the deuteragonist of the show, the one character besides the Doctor who is constantly with us and reminding us that though she may just be a Blue Box, she is alive and she is always there throughout it all.

Review of The Eleventh Hour by Verged

17 June 2025

It's hard to move on from David Tennant, many people still haven't. But if you needed the show to convince you it was still going to be amazing, possibly even better than ever, then Matt Smith, Karen Gillian and Steven Moffat have easily provided that with this episode. Not many Doctor's get an introduction as bold and committed as this one, only 'The Power of the Daleks', 'Spearhead from Space' and 'The Giggle' even come close.

Review of Turn Left by Verged

17 June 2025

An episode that proves you don't need the biggest budget in the world to make amazing television. RTD had one cast member, a dodgy beetle prop and a metric ton of old episode clips, and he used it to make one of the greatest episodes ever. An episode you could really make a sequel to, as anything you explore will potentially make the universe deeper and richer, there are so many possibilities.

Review of Midnight by Verged

17 June 2025

An episode that proves you don't need the biggest budget in the world to make amazing television. RTD had one cast member, one set and a knowledge of ctrl+c and ctrl+v, and he used it to make one of the greatest episodes ever. An episode you can't really make a sequel to, as anything you explore will inevitably make this story weaker ... oh.

A story that very well may have actually been written in the future. The fact this got made feels like proof that magic is real.

Review of Utopia by Verged

As Master reveals go, this is easily the best. But the story leading up to it is also very good and could've easily stood on its own.

Review of The Age of Steel by Verged

17 June 2025

The Cybermen usually got dealt a bad hand in the Classic Era. The body horror element that feels so essential to them seemed to get forgotten about after the 60s, leading to them becoming generic robot guys in 'Revenge of the Cybermen' and little more than space thugs in silver jumpsuits by their last appearance in 'Silver Nemesis'. The revival returned them to the nightmare they're meant to be, and I feel that they were explored very well in this relatively underrated story.

Review of Rose by Verged

17 June 2025

15 years later it is still the optimal jumping-on point for the show. Yes it might be a bit dated now, especially the CGI, but that's part of the charm really. It gets an extra star just for Clive, RIP to a legend.
