FARIAH: You can't threaten me now, Benik. I can only die once, and someone's beaten you to it.

CONTROLLER: I can assure you that this planet has never been more efficiently, more economically run. People have never been happier or more prosperous.

DOCTOR: Then why do you need so many people to keep them under control? Don't they like being happy and prosperous?

DOCTOR: Well, when I was on the river I heard a strange babble of inhuman voices, didn't you, Romana?

ROMANA: Yes.

CHRONOTIS: Oh, undergraduates talking to each other, I expect. I've trying to have it banned.

Shada

PARSONS: No, well, er, look, I hope I'm not taking up any of your valuable-

CHRONOTIS: Time? Oh no. When you get to my age, you'll find that time doesn't matter too much. Not that I expect you'll get to my age.

Shada

TURLOUGH: If ever you had to kill someone, could you do it? Could you?

TEGAN: No. I don't know. If it was important, to save my friend, to defend myself.

TURLOUGH: But cold-bloodedly?

TEGAN: You're weird, Turlough.

WRACK: You wanted it all. Your mind is divided, confused, hard to read sometimes, but one thing is clear in it always. Greed. Take him away. He bores me.

TURLOUGH: No, listen! The power outside the Ion chamber. I heard the power that speaks to you. I heard it and I know the voice. He speaks to me as well. I serve him, as I wish to serve you.

TEGAN: You believe him because he gave up Enlightenment for your sake.

DOCTOR: You're missing the point. Enlightenment was not the diamond. Enlightenment was the choice.

HUGH: Can you not call on Hell?

TURLOUGH: I could, but then so could you, with a better chance of success, I fancy.

DOCTOR: Great chunks of my past, detaching themselves like melting icebergs.

— Fifth Doctor, The Five Doctors

TURLOUGH: We're running out of places to run.

TEGAN: The story of our lives.

TEGAN: Come on Doctor, all these tunnels look the same.

DOCTOR: Oh but they aren't.

DOCTOR: See, I told you it was small.

GRACE: What is it they say?

DOCTOR: Yeah they say that on my planet too.

CHARLEY: Couldn't you do something about tidying this place up?

DOCTOR: The TARDIS? What's wrong with it?

CHARLEY: For a really futuristic ship, what you ought to have is gleaming white surfaces and bright flashing controls and... I mean, it's the 1930s now Doctor, this place is like something out of Jules Verne.

DOCTOR: It might be the 1930s to you Charley, but for me it's nothing of the kind.

ZEUS: You know her?

LUCIE: She was operating the brain-washing clone-swapping machine, all bent over and horrible.

ZEUS: That's my wife.

LUCIE: I'm sure she has a lovely personality.

LUCIE: Will you still need me, (singing) when I'm sixty-four?

DOCTOR: Lucie I don't need you now.

LUCIE: Liar.

DOCTOR: You caught me.

JAGO: I had the strangest dream the other night. I dreamt that we were on a case, another infestation of infernal invaders, and after applying your deductive powers and bearding them in their lair, you'd been caught by the nasties. I forget what they looked like, all a bit vague, that's dreams. Yet one thing was clear, clear as a bell, they were going to kill you, and they were gloating about it the way nasties always do. Somehow they knew that I had promised to look after you, and they were taunting me. Laughing in me face. And when I woke up I thought- if they did carry out their ghastly threat, if you were to suffer and expire at their hands, the last thought to pass through your mind would be 'Where's Henry? He said he'd be here.' And I'd realised that I'd rather face a thousand nasties than to have you think that of me.

— Henry Gordon Jago, Jago & Litefoot Forever

HOROBIN: You’ll do as you are ordered if you know what’s good for you. You know the penalty for insubordination?

ELLISON: Death?

HOROBIN: Worse – unemployment!

DOCTOR: It’s a maternity suite.

TURLOUGH: A maternity suite?

DOCTOR: For babies. They do have babies on your planet, don’t they? I’m not gonna have to explain where they come from?

DOCTOR: You must've injected me with something on the way in! No, no, no, I'd feel it in my veins, my veins aren't where I feel it.

ADRIC: Feel what, Doctor?

DOCTOR: Pain.

MASTER: Is that pettiness, or attention to detail? I'm an artist Doctor, an auteur of misery and death, and this is my finest work.

— The Tremas Master, The Auton Infinity

TEGAN: I know we see so much death Nyssa, but... there's an invincibility I feel around the Doctor, even after Adric, though I'll admit I lost it for a while. I didn't mean to bring him up, I- I'm kinda hoping you can't hear me. I can't hear you at least.

— Tegan Jovanka, Pursuit of the Nightjar

DOCTOR: Just a thought.

TEGAN: A bad thought?

DOCTOR: I never have bad thoughts Tegan, not with you around.

DOCTOR: Murder isn't just a puzzle, you know, it's about the people too. The lives that are irrevocably changed.

TEGAN: And that's why you're nervous to investigate?

DOCTOR: I'm not nervous. Saddened. Dismayed. When I was a different me I was hardened to that, in this incarnation I think I feel it more.

DOCTOR: So, what are you going to do while I pop over and get her?

TEGAN: You must be kidding, you're not going in there without me.

DOCTOR: I don't want to argue with you Tegan.

TEGAN: Then don't. You can't leave me behind, we're in this together.

DOCTOR: You realise the danger?

TEGAN: Of course I do! And I get why you're worried, okay? But what happened to Adric, isn't going to happen to me.

DOCTOR: You don't know that.

TEGAN: I do know that I'm not staying here while you and Nyssa are in danger. So unless you plan on locking me up-

DOCTOR: Alright, alright.
