Synopsis

Alice Obiefune always wanted to see a space station – one of those proper ones. Maybe with an exotic matter wormhole nearby, if it's not too much trouble. The views are breathtaking... but so is the formless creature creeping through the station, stealing voices and inflicting comas on those research scientists unlucky enough to be caught. Tracking the temporal trail of the slippery SERVEYOUinc incorporation, has the Doctor found more than he bargained for? And will this entity from between the stars be the death of them all?

Not sure why this is split into two stories, haven’t read the next part yet (as of writing the review), but yeah this is definitely just part 1 of 2, it sets things up well, but can’t give more than that

This is an excellent opening to a story. I love mysteries, and this one got me engrossed from the start. The characters are really, really good and the art is lovely. The plot isn't complete as this is clearly the first part of a 2-parter, but what's here is very good and the cliffhanger is strong. I also like how it's tying into the series arc. I think the way in which each story in this run builds upon the others works really well to form a cohesive narrative that feels like a season of television that could have been showran by Steven Moffat. It's great.

Thworping through time and space, one adventure at a time!

NOTES & COMMENTS:

Al Ewing returns to write, and the Doctor takes Alice to her first space station to hopefully solve the mystery of the puzzling SERVEYOUinc organisation.

This feels like one of those Classic Who serials set in a space station, led by a useless base leader, where the crew members die one by one, killed by an unknown alien assailant.

I appreciate how this story takes time to discuss the nature of travelling with the Doctor and being his companion, as Alice wants to return home to catch up on her life.

The art style here is quite traditional and cosy. I like it.

This story feels longer than previous chapters because it gives everything more room to breathe.

Alice gets some deeper character development while the Doctor goes off investigating the murders. However, the majority of this is characterised by a gradual build-up, with minimal noteworthy events occurring.

I find Jones very annoying, and I don't understand why he had to carry over from What He Wants to this story. It's not like Alice couldn't keep being the sole companion.

What a great cliffhanger reveal!
