Chihuahua, Earth, Mexico Synopsis In search of "exotic particles", the Doctor and Flip arrive 700 feet underground, in a mine in Northern Mexico – only to run into a scientific expedition. Among their number, an exobiologist. They're all on the hunt for alien life! Deep underground, the team finally uncovers a cave of vast crystals – like ice, despite the heat. And inside the crystal: something frozen. Something trapped in time. If only it were something simple, like a monster. But it's far, far worse than that. This is part of a series of reviews of Doctor Who in chronological timeline order. Previous Story: Wirrn Isle I love a good timey-wimey story but this is too much. I genuinely have no idea what just happened and I'm not sure even a flowchart would help. I wouldn't say it's the good kind of timey-wimey, all the twists and reveals are really unsatisfying when you don't actually understand them. I'm beginning to get a bit tired of Jonathan Morris' "you can't change history" plotline. It normally makes for good drama but it feels really forced here and ultimately meaningless, it's not like this moment will ever get explored in Flip and the Doctor's relationship and next to stories like Arrangements for War hearing the Sixth Doctor say that you can't change time once it's been written just sounds dumb. Overall, I really wish I could like this one because I absolutely love this kind of story but it's too complex (and/or poorly written) and also has some really annoying moments that bring it down. The Doctor and Flip arrive in a cave/mine, and run into an expedition, so what's in the mine? Its good to have Flip, I've not heard a lot of her stories, but she nice enough. The story is, or at least starts out fairly easy going, The Doctor and Flip join forces wth the expidition to explore the mine. The Vortex Ice seems to be frozen time and there are one or two twists along the way. Part two begins and initially you feel as if you've missed a bit. Its hard to not to spoil it so stop reading now, but we find two of each Flip and The Doctor the present ones and a future ones. This is where it gets very easy to lose your place, as you're not sure which version your currently listening to, as not only do they share scenes they're also trying to hide the fact. I enjoyed it, but I feel thats it one I need to give another go to to really understand it. Seagullslost View profile Like Liked 1 Open in new window Statistics AVG.
