Synopsis

The Time War. The Doctor has been injured and brought to a Time Lord field hospital. His body glows with energy, but this is no regeneration into a future form - instead, the Doctor’s past faces begin to appear as he flits haphazardly between incarnations…

Staggering to his TARDIS, the Doctor sets out to solve the mystery of his ‘degeneration’. Who has done this to him? How? And why? From the Earth to the stars, across an array of familiar times and places, he follows clues to retrace his steps, encountering old friends and enemies along the way. Tumbling through his lives, the Doctor must stop his degeneration before he loses himself completely...

Back on Earth, the Doctor finds a clue in the search for the origins of the degeneration weapon. In his Sixth body, he meets Jackie Tyler and Lady Christina de Souza - thrown together by fate, or something more? - in pursuit of a powerful item of jewellery.

Meanwhile, a Time Lord renegade has duped Harry Sullivan into helping him stop the Doctor's travels before they begin - and all are set on a collision course.

I'd seen a lot of unfavourable comments regarding this Once And Future story, but honestly I thought it was better than its reputation suggests. Although there are some pacing issues, and the story is rather basic, Jackie Tyler and Lady Christina make a heck of a fun pair. It's interesting hearing Jackie with a Doctor like the Sixth, who is so different from either the Ninth or Tenth Doctors. The Sixth Doctor is also unafraid of calling Harry Sullivan an imbecile like his predecessor!

This was fun.
I'm not a big fan of Jackie Tyler and Lady Christina, but they are really funny here. Jackie was the main source of comedy here.
Colin Baker's Sixth Doctor is amazing as always. Christopher Naylor nails the late great Ian Marter's Harry Sullivan perfectly (although I don't like him being aged on the cover). Their chemistry is amazing, I even laughed one time:
The Doctor (in the form of his Third incarnation): Harry, old chap, it's so good to see you! *retro-regenerates into Sixth* HARRY SULLIVAN YOU OLD FOOL YOU'VE SET MY CONSOLE ON FIRE!!!!
I was thinking this story would be generic, but Michael Maloney's the Two mostly saved it for me. I heard only one audio with the Eleven, and it is interesting to see how this villain began his life. But I wish he had a lot more time to get explored in this story - without it his storyline feels rushed and unfinished.
I can't say this story wasn't fun. It was quite enjoyable.
