In light of the enormous success of The Silver Turk, it’s obvious that the subsequent story would have the difficult task of matching the quality levels of its predecessor. The range of Mary Shelley with the 8th Doctor continues with its scary theme and dark tones - This time we come across the awakening of a witch exuding her fury for being imprisoned in an abandoned well for many years chasing two mysterious young twins, as they get involved, the TARDIS travellers decide to help them escape from such a creature. Subsequently, the Doctor uses the traces of an alien ship that supposedly has a connection with the witch to direct his TARDIS to the 17th century, when the Time Lord decides to go out for his investigations the twins end up taking care of the controls of the time machine generating a twist separating Mary and the Doctor at different periods in history. I recognize Rick Briggs' good intentions with his whole idea of separating his two main characters, making both of the interconnected events responsible for solving the problem – The only mishap of the writer was to have given very little to do to Mary Shelley in his plot, it even gives an impression that his real idea was to save himself from having to elaborate a whole development for her, only having to worry about writing the Doctor's plot. There is a certain exaggeration in the concept of "Odic" energy making it a bit too complex, it’s that typical crazy sci-fi thing that the listener doesn’t fully understand 100% and interprets it as just a device ksksks. Unlike many, the narrative progression was not a problem in my experience, it flowed very well, especially counting with excellent and relevant secondary characters very well interpreted – Besides, it's interesting to observe how the stories from this range have been marked by presenting many well-thought-out and placed plot twists, the plots curve and turn making each minute exciting and not tiring its listener. Just analyze the initial status of the twins (Finicia and Lucern) and compare them with the final result, the same works with several other characters like Agnes, Beatrix, Kincaid. In summary, The Witch From The Well is that typical witch hunt genre story with all the traditional ingredients, superstitions, religion, wrongfully accused characters being accused of being witches among others. I didn’t find it generic and not bad at all, it's also far from being a masterpiece. (Translation generated by AI, so mistakes are possible).
