It's hard for someone not to agree that Sutekh deserves more appearances in the series, he is simply one of the greatest tormentors the Doctor has ever faced, always proving to be a tough, powerful villain, as well as relentless and thirsty for control and power. Fortunately, he does not go unnoticed here in The Pyramids Of Sutekh where we gain precious new minutes of Gabriel Wolf's excellent performance causing countless shivers down the spine. Guy Adams bets on an exciting plot putting his characters in fireproof situations bringing a lot of distress and emotion to his listener - Continuing her archaeological expeditions through the universe, Bernice Summerfield finds herself in the midst of a war scenario on Mars exploring a mysterious pyramid. Going deeper, she comes across a room where she finds the 7th Doctor suffering from conflicting mental disorders, soon Benny realizes that the powerful consciousness of Sutekh controls him and has turned him into his servant with the aim of finding a new body to be reborn in physical form, otherwise he will take full possession of the Doctor's body. Thus, Bernice follows on a mission facing the dangerous corridors of the Pyramid encountering numerous and delicate traps with rights to robotic mummies, in order to find a way to prevent the rebirth of Sutekh and free the Doctor from his control. This audio is a sequel for Sutekh in a chronological sense, because we see in Pyramids Of Mars (arc of the 4th Doctor) the villain being defeated by the Time Lord and here revealing that he still remains “alive” not in physical form but in the form of a consciousness, a kind of telepathic spirit. I must highlight once again the excellent performance of Lisa Bowerman who makes her character one of the most interesting in Doctor Who always gaining small monologues within the plots and never failing to be a highlight, her performance in the final outcome of The Pyramid Of Sutekh is out of this world good. In fact, this audio has one of the best BIG FINISH audio endings (at least of everything I've heard so far) it's that typical episode finale that leaves you drooling to go check out the next one straight away. Unfortunately, the audio just missed reaching the highest rating in my review, I felt that the middle of the plot was filled with somewhat repetitive events that showed a certain delay in progressing or giving new directions to the story, it seemed intentional to burn minutes. Don't get me wrong, it's not a bad thing, I just think the writer could have applied slightly more intelligent ideas to fill that middle, even with that, it's possible to enjoy the dynamics between Bernice and the robotic Mummy who curiously decided to assume the voice of her ex-husband Jason Kane, annoying and putting the archaeologist in various dilemmas in her decision-making. In summary, Triumph Of Sutekh started a thousand delivering an extremely exciting introduction, finishing its first story with a terrifyingly fantastic ending.
