Egypt is in mourning. Pharaoh, the great God-King, is dead. The future of the Two Kingdoms of Egypt is shrouded in uncertainty as the Council of Priests debates the claim to the throne of Pharaoh's only heir.

Out in the deserts around Thebes, Egypt's capital, a warlord chief is assembling an army of mercenaries, waiting for just the right moment to strike at Egypt's heart.

But not all of Egypt's enemies are outside the city. What is the secret of the strange box discovered in the desert?

When the TARDIS arrives nearby, it has apparently been hi-jacked... by the Doctor?

A story which uses the cast really well, and builds epically across its setting, to reveal a rich, deep and interesting historical story. A brilliant introduction to Erimem who adds much to the dynamic of The Fifth Doctor and Peri, and I'm excited to see more of as I continue through the audios.

Believe me the combination of 5, Peri and Erimem is brilliant, I love them. But it starts with a slow bump, this is far more of a drama piece than feeling so sci-fi and alien which let me down a little. But wasn't a terrible listen all the same.

Nice story with some great sound design, and a lovely introduction to a new companion!! Really like the dynamic with Peri and Erimem already, can't wait to hear more from this team.

Located after the events of the Planet Of Fire arc, the fate of the Doctor and Peri is Ancient Egypt, more precisely in the desert of Thebes in 1400 BC which is mourning the death of its Pharaoh. With this, the so-called Council of Priests debates the claim to the throne, it is here that we meet a new companion called Erimem with the current status of successor to the position being pursued by a sexist wing of the council wanting to prevent a woman from being in power – What is impressive in The Eye Of The Scorpion is that all the ingredients said to be essential for the composition of a great story are present in the audio, we have a very intriguing narrative lineage, an interesting and thrilling plot with plot twists and mainly surprising and shocking cliffhangers that capture its listener through the 4 parts that make it up. One example is the ending of part 3 - when we are already projecting the final development we are surprised by the Doctor who with just one line of speech completely changes the direction that the story was guiding. Furthermore, the audio is rich in knowledge and information from the historical period along with excellent character development, each of them has their role and importance for the continuity of their plot. Devoting almost an entire part to the fascinating Erimem, we know in detail the life and her stories that serve as a precise and convincing justification of her strong personality. The only problem with The Eye Of The Scorpion is the existence of a slight sexualization in its first part, where Peri details that she had help from servants to bathe and wear her very tight dress said by herself - but nothing that is a big problematic alarm that completely taints the plot, it is just a matter of seconds. All this can be compensated when we see Peri talking to Erimem about democracy, women's rights and the importance of abolishing prejudice and racism. In summary, The Eye Of The Scorpion is yet another unmissable audio from BIG FINISH, I must confess that I am very curious to know the continuity of this TARDIS Team.
