Review of The Elysian Blade by MrColdStream
✅(8.6) Very Good!
Thworping through time and space, one adventure at a time!
Frazer Hines reads this original adventure for Two, Jamie and Victoria, written by David Bishop. Bishop taps into the era effectively, delivering an atmospheric sci-fi story with strong themes and intriguing concepts.
There's a bit of an experimental quality to this story, and it takes a while to get going. However, I appreciate the central concept of a company that allows people to either relive or forget their most memorable experiences, even if it means sacrificing one of their senses. It raises important points about the significance of important memories for us, no matter how painful they can be.
The story is told from Jamie's point of view, which he colours with his usual shticks.
Also, I feel that this “Jamie hallucinating that he's back on the Highlands” plot point has been done to death already.
Hines' narration is a bit breathless and rushed here and there, but he's competent at voicing the Doctor and Jamie. He also gives the other characters distinct voices.
I appreciate how Bishop skillfully captures Victoria's yearning to reunite with her family. Making her blind means that she's pretty useless in the second half of the story.

Another perfect Victoria story love how this marathon has given me a new way of seeing the character of Victoria and I think that’s really cool
