A very strong and confident start to Doom Coalition that is promising a more expansive story than Dark Eyes. The Eleven is the most ingenious character created in the history of Big Finish, a Time Lord with all his past selves stuck in his head? An incredible idea brought to life by Mark Bonnar. The actual plot is pretty straightforward: the Eleven is imprisoned on Gallifrey, and manages to escape. Wherever Narvin is I'm sure he fired everyone when he got back because it's far too easy for the Eleven, even making it into the Presidential office and absconding. It's a fun hour of audio, and McGann and Walker are in top form as the Doctor and Liv. I'm excited to see the story unfold from here. Finally getting around to doing reviews of all the Doom Coalition audios that I've been going through recently, on a big marathon. I skipped Dark Eyes for reasons I won't get into here (I think it's a huge bore), but regardless. This will now be me trying to recall my scattered thoughts and what I thought of these stories, as I took a few months' break between the second and third boxsets. Anyway, time to begin. First of all, I do think that The Eleven is a very good opener for the series as a whole. It sets up what the main premise is obviously going to be about, and who the primary villain of the series will be, although I do think there's barely much of a plot to it. There's fun side characters, who annoyingly get killed off, but it doesn't have a lot of meat to it. Instead, we're introduced to Padrac who becomes much more prominent later on, and of course, the Eleven. Mark Bonnar gives his all in every performance of this character, and it is thoroughly entertaining to hear, to be honest. In comparison to the likes of Their Finest Hour, the opening story of the Ravenous series, this one is much more successful in introducing us to the recurring cast of the series. I'd give it a solid 7/10. maxy0419 View profile Like Liked 3 3 June 2025 · 125 words Review by jiffleball Spoilers This review contains spoilers! The Eighth Doctor Adventures really are some of the best things Big Finish has ever produced. The writing, sound design and acting behind the character of the Eleven is peak — an excellent fusion of Whoniverse lore and the unique strengths of audio storytelling. A Time Lord experiencing all of their regenerations at once? Brilliant. How would we depict that on screen? We don't have to. We can hear the voices of this villain's previous lives as if they were in our head not his. Creepy. Threatening. And oddly sympathetic given how much the condition makes him suffer. Liv, the Doctor and their supporting cast are electric, too. I've listened to Doom Coalition once before but a long time ago. Ecstatic to dive back in. jiffleball View profile Like Liked 0 14 March 2025 · 30 words Review by Azurillkirby 1 A very interesting introduction to The Eleven. I'm curious how they will use him throughout this series. Regardless, though, this story is very good on its own. A. Maybe B.
