Belgium, Waterloo, Earth, England, London Synopsis It's been a year since Philippa "Flip" Jackson found herself transported by Tube train to battle robot mosquitoes on a bizarre alien planet in the company of a Time Lord known only as "the Doctor". Lightning never strikes twice, they say. Only now there's a flying saucer whooshing over the top of the night bus taking her home. Inside: the Doctor, with another extraterrestrial menace on his tail — the Daleks, and their twisted creator Davros! But while Flip and the fugitive Doctor struggle to beat back the Daleks' incursion into 21st century London, Davros's real plan is taking shape nearly 200 years in the past, on the other side of the English Channel. This is part of a series of reviews of Doctor Who in chronological timeline order. Previous Story: Legend of the Cybermen This is a refreshingly unique Dalek story. I suppose having Davros helps that but even then that's not always a guarantee that it'll be good. Even though I guessed the twist almost immediately, it was still a good surprise and something that rarely gets done in Doctor Who. Colin Baker and Terry Molloy's performances here are on another level. Having to play each other's characters inhabiting their own characters' bodies must have been a real challenge and they pulled it off marvelously. The Napoleon stuff brings down this story in my opinion, it feels quite disjointed from the rest of the narrative and a really forced way to make this story into a pseudo-historical. I just didn't care for it at all apart from the scene at the end where Napoleon accepts that he has to lose and quotes ABBA. We have a new companion here in the form of Flip Jackson. She technically appeared already in The Crimes of Thomas Brewster but I barely remember what happened in that story. I like that she's a very down-to-earth character so far, reminiscent of the RTD era companions (definitely an inspiration). Lisa Greenwood's performance is pretty good though I'm not sure whether I'll like or dislike Flip as of right now.
