Bristol, Bath, Earth, England Synopsis Bath, 1756 – and a very dashing gentleman known only as the Doctor is newly arrived in town, accompanied by his lady friends Mrs Clarke and Mrs Ramon. He's created a stir among the gentlefolk of Georgian high society – and a stir in the heart of merry widow Mrs Theodosia Middlemint, rumour has it. They are not the only strangers from abroad causing tongues to wag, however. The mysterious Lady Clara, come from Amsterdam in the company of the noble Captain Van Der Meer, has the whole of Bath agog. Who is she, really? What is she, really? But there's something terrible beneath the veneer of Georgian gentility. As awful a horror as the Doctor has ever exposed, hidden inside Balsam's Brassworks. Something that needs to be brought to light, for the sake of all humanity. The Doctor, Flip and Constance arrive in England in the 1700's and well... Spend some time there. The thing is that there isn't so much as a single overarching plot in this audio. The emphasis of the story shifts in each episode, it starts off not really about anything- a dance with the guests awaiting on the Lady clara to arrive. Then there's an animal on the loose in the second, the abduction of Flip in the third. If you've listened to Time in Office, its in a similar vein. Same time, characters, place but more a series of connected events. There is almost some romance for the Doctor, but much more like in the Aztecs rather than some of the newer TV episodes. Other themes deal with the issue of slavery and the position of women in society, not quite at the forefront but are there. On the whole I liked it. A refreshing change from the normal run arounds. I can understand why this might be a love or hate it scenario. As I said, the during first episode you do wonder when the plot is going to kick in, but then once you get the idea that this audio isn't following the usuall run of things then you can get onboard with it.
