Earth, England, London Synopsis Somewhere in a suburb of North London, there's a crisis. More than a crisis, a positive disaster: Belinda and Ralph are expecting four for supper, and there's no Marie Rose sauce for the Prawns Marie Rose. All in all, the evening couldn't possibly get any worse... Until the doorbell rings, bringing the Doctor and Leela to the dinner party. They've got a crisis, too – temporal ruckage has sent the TARDIS to another time zone entirely. Meaning they might have to endure a whole evening in Belinda's company. But the Doctor and Leela aren't the only uninvited guests tonight. There's a strange fog falling, out in the road. And in that fog: savage blue-skinned monsters, with dinner party plans of their own. Because it's not Prawns Marie Rose on their menu – it's people! Very much run-of-the-mill, but nothing exciting. The Doctor and Leela feel a lot like their TV counterparts, and I could see Leela in this suburban environment, acting very savagely indeed, whilst the Doctor spends time investigating with Thelma from over the road - I enjoyed both characters on their adventure, whether together or alone, especially as Leela's time is coming to a close, and the development of her character is clear. The monsters were generic, and reminded me of the Wirrn, which were far superior. Also, I didn't like how the characters reacted to them when they killed their friends and spouses, just shrugging it off nonchalantly. Their plan was also a bit stupid, going for Belinda for some reason. I did enjoy the setting of the suburbs - I think that everyone settled there very well and works excellently for a Williams era-esque story. It's quite creepily used and does sometimes remind me of Horror of Fang Rock when they're under siege. I've already mentioned how I dislike the side characters. They all clearly hate each other, which makes me wonder why they are friends, and react extremely poorly when faced with death or fear, being incredibly unrealistic. However, that is totally down to the writing and not the actors themselves - I really enjoyed their performances. It's a decent base-under-siege story, but not one I'm keen to go back to. This is part of a series of reviews of Doctor Who in chronological timeline order. Previous Story: Death Match A solid, timey-wimey story. I think this series suffers so far from being quite bland, so this is a nice change of pace. The Doctor and Leela end up at a dinner party in an old, mysterious house that falls under attack from blue people. The Doctor gets sent back into the house's past and meets the blue people again. The juxtaposition of events in the past next to events in the present and how they affect each other makes for reallly engaging storytelling and sets up a great twist. My only gripes are that I think the ending is a bit rushed, the blue people are defeated very suddenly and the characters, especially the Doctor and Leela, feel quite basically written although this might be because it's coming off the back of a fairly character-driven two parter.
