Doctor Who Adventures provides us with another brief, slightly odd, encounter for the 11th Doctor, Amy and Rory. I hesistate to call it an ‘adventure’ because so little happens and it’s almost over before it has begun. A submariner has locked himself on the bridge of a submarine and is determined to direct the submarine to a specific destination. The TARDIS arrives in the locked room and the 11th Doctor soon ascertains that the man is a disguised alien desperately trying to return to his crashed spacecship which is lying at the bottom of the ocean. The alien, Gein, had crashed four years earlier but his efforts to repair his ship and escape Earth had been scuppered by the outbreak of World War Two. He has used the submarine to return. Unfortunately when he does get aboard his ship he finds it is completely lifeless and he needs the Doctor to take him home. The Doctor performs a bit of jiggery pokery which allows the ship – which is organic in origin – to be devoured by the local marine life meaning the technology contained within won’t be discovered and used by the Nazis to tip the war in their favour. Quite why, bearing in mind it’s been hidden at the bottom of the ocean for four years, the Nazis are suddenly going to become aware of its presence, is left unexplained. Gein is a typical DWA alien – bright colours and slightly odd appearance. His ship is purple and a little bit fish like. The Doctor, Amy and Rory are the most basic versions of their characters and all in all this is easily one of the slightest and least engaging DWA comic strips. The World War Two setting seems to purely be to give a bit of nebulous threat to proceedings but there is hardly any real jeopardy in the story. A mild diversion. deltaandthebannermen View profile Like Liked 1 Open in new window Statistics More Ratings Needed! 3 ratings Member Statistics Completed 5 Favourited 0 Reviewed 1 Saved 1 Skipped 2 Owned 0 Quotes Add Quote Submit a Quote
