This is my first foray into the Nest Cottage Chronicles, because unlike Hornet’s Nest or Serpent’s Crest, Demon Crest was actually at my local library. This came back to bite me when the twist of the final hinges on having listened to Hornet’s Nest, so it really didn’t work for me and had me scratching my head and though I believe I was adequately attached to Mrs Wibbsey, only before the reveal did the finale have an emotional impact on me. The last thirty minutes felt like I was smiling and nodding but without the proper context for it. On the whole I like this miniseries, but not a lot. Every episode was a lot of fun, generally, with Tom Baker playing the Doctor as the highlight in each episode. 2 was my favorite, and 4 was easily my least favorite. I think the fusion of prose and screenplay is a very smart decision and I think you get the best of both worlds. I wish Big Finish would do this more often. This is part of a series of reviews of Doctor Who in chronological timeline order. Previous Story: Starfall The Nest Cottage Chronicles are really strange, but in a good way. This is no exception to that. I think this might even be my favourite yet. There are plenty of twists and turns throughout this story. Most notably, the Hornets are back. I think the Hornets are one of the most fascinating and unique Doctor Who villains in general, you never know what to expect with them. I certainly didn't expect Mrs Wibbsey to have been possessed this whole time, that really recontextualises the last few parts for me. Once again I have to mention the magnificent cover art for this story. All of Demon Quest has had great cover art but this one is especially good. The little cliffhanger at the end feels a bit tacked on but that is really my only gripe with the story and it's not even a big one.
