Here is the beginning of the famous range that was completely ignored by the so-called contemporary "genius" Chris Chiball. To insinuate that Mary Shelley never met the Doctor in her life in her episode "The Haunting Of Villa Diodati" was the last straw for the revolt of countless fans, especially those more engaged and attached to the content of the Expanded Universe, since declared by the BBC itself in the TV series format the BIG FINISH audios as canonical. With just a 30-minute duration, Mary Story’s is the last of the four stories from the Main Range "The Company Of Friends" – In it, Jonathan Morris plays with two versions of the 8th Doctor positioning him as the cause of the problem at the same time also as the solution to the problem for the plot, along with a purely Victorian horror narrative with airs similar to other famous Gothic stories of the Eighth Incarnation, the best example being the iconic "The Chimes Of Midnight". As the central focus and inspiration for the plot – On a night of reading accompanied by Byron, Polidori, Percy, and Claire, Mary Shelley encounters a version of the 8th Doctor from the future who has already experienced his adventures with Mary as well as with Charley, Crizz among other companions, the reason for his disturbed behavior that even remits to a monster was caused by a contamination of a kind of virus called "Time Glass" or "Vitreo Temporal" something like that, then comes his past version that has only experienced his adventures from the Books and Comics, he then joins Mary to resolve and alleviate the situation of his future version. In addition to possessing a brilliant and immersive sound atmosphere and landscape, the interactions between Paul McGann and Julie Cox are of a high level to the point of easily conquering their listener in the first minutes, the two together form a wonderful duo, a combination in perfect tune of unique Victorian mannerisms that make us feel in such a short time how good this will be in the following audios. Always with her sweet and clear innocence amid the news of unimaginable things in her reality, Mary is a kind-hearted companion determined to meet and learn alongside the 8th Doctor, fascinated by stories and adventures, as a good writer is. Finally, there is not much more to extend in a 30-minute audio, I just recommend that you embark on these adventures. (Translation generated by AI, so mistakes are possible). My favorite's from The Company of Friends is definitely Fitz's story and Mary's story. I loved how this basically made it so that Eight inspired Frankenstein, and in such a fun way! I'll definitely listen this one again. Paul McGann is just so amazing to listen to and is such a great actor. The rest of the cast was absolutely amazing too and really delivered. I'm not at all surprised that Eight picked Mary Shelley up as a companion and I'm really excited to listen to those audios soon. Ah, I just really love gothic horror and Eight Doctor is honestly just made for that genre <3 eldritchlamb View profile Like Liked 2 5 September 2024 · 167 words Review by dema1020 Spoilers 2 This review contains spoilers! I was really excited for this one. Perhaps too much so, as a short audio like this can only do so much. It feels like an interesting companion of "The Haunting of Villa Diodati" even if they don't quite blend with each other. Still, there's so much fun to be had I can't be too hard on it. Mary Shelley, Byron, and most of all Eight are all excellent in this. There's some fun ideas with a Frankenstein Doctor and a regenerating TARDIS being tossed around. And a new, very cool idea for a companion joins the team. I'm a bit irked her time with the Doctor runs so short, but I still have to check those other audios out so we will have to see. It feels relevant to mention that though, since a lot of Mary's Story is kind of set-up for that future with the Doctor, and I'll be curious how I feel about this audio after listening to the rest of Shelley's adventures. dema1020 View profile Like Liked 2 Open in new window Statistics AVG.
