Synopsis

On the highly regulated colony world of Hoi, the Doctor is captured by the authorities and taken to the forbidden zone for 're-education'. Mrs Clarke escapes and discovers an amorphous being in hiding. This protean creature craves purpose and identity, and wants Constance to make it an instrument of her will. Desperate to rescue the Doctor, she agrees - and suddenly Hoi is threatened by a swarm of wild and ravenous Mrs Clarkes!

Not exactly a brand new plot for a story, but it’s told in a unique way. The previous review is correct, this is done in very much the style of a Companion Chronicle with the Doctor and Constance relating the events of the story after the fact to different people. I wasn’t grabbed that much by the story, but it has a nice little ending with the present Doctor and Constance meeting up. This whole set was recorded in 2021 so Colin Baker sounds better than he has recently and Miranda Raison is always a delight as Constance.

Best way I can describe this is it’s a doctor adventure in a companion chronicles format this is probs the closest we will get to a Constance companion chronicle so if that’s up your alley highly recommend

DOCTOR: It’s been a while since I indulged myself in fiction.

THE READER: Reading’s hard to fit in, isn’t it?

DOCTOR: Oh no, I read voraciously. It’s just not many stories lately.

THE READER: So what do you read?

DOCTOR: Oh, thesauri, lexica, encyclopediae, dictionaries—disappointing plural that, isn’t it?
