Review of God of War by thedefinitearticle63

This is part of a series of reviews of Doctor Who in chronological timeline order.

Previous Story: Kinda

The Fifth Doctor is pulled backward in time to when he was travelling with Adric, Tegan and Nyssa. This is a great story that grapples with the burden of knowing the future. The Doctor knows exactly what's coming for his friends and it's really sad. This leads to a lot of interesting moments, he lets Adric go off on his own because he knows that Adric won't die. He can't take on another companion because he knows that she never travelled with him. He can't let Adric stay behind either.

This story focuses on the characters a lot more, making up for the lack of development in their TV appearances at the same point in time. The story itself is not remarkable, but it doesn't need to be. It follows the simple Ice Warrior Story formula of a crashed ship full of Ice Warriors trapped in ice for a couple thousand years only to be thawed out and discover their planet is dead. I do wish they had some more ideas for the ice warriors but if it works it works I suppose.

The sound design and soundtrack are a standout, especially the latter. All this makes for a very solid story and it'll only be disappointing if you listen to it for the Ice Warriors. I was really hoping they'd change it up and have a benevolent Ice Warrior for once but alas, no. This meant the Ice Warrior "betrayal" couldn't have been more expected. Regardless, the main star of the show is the character development and this story has plenty of that.
