A woman dong a ghost walk on modern day Earth and the Tardis arriving in cave a few centuries before hand. Seemingly unconnected until one of the ghosts turns out to be the Doctor. So part one is about the Doctor, Adric, Nyssa and Tegan arriving in the caves and something not right. Its very atmospheric, holds your attention and just enough mystery to make you want to hear more. Part two is concerned with he fates of Adric and Nyssa. Both having escaped the doom awaiting them in part one, find themselves still in the past, alone, each facing their own problems. Not much from the Doctor in this episode. But still you don’t know whats going on. The final two parts deals with the Doctor and Tegan, though it is just the Doctor by part 4. I quite enjoyed it. It isn’t the normal run around. The fact that the companions are written out, each facing a different ‘end’ really heightens the peril of the situation the Doctor has found himself in. Its been done quite well, you don’t really know how the Doctor became a ghost or how things will be put right. There are a couple of swipes at Tegan, just the odd comments made at her expense - made me smile. The resolution was a little unsatisfying, its virtually wave a magic wand and the companions are fine and well again. Its a good audio, not quite great or best of the best. But its a bit more original and refreshing. Seagullslost View profile Like Liked 1 15 January 2025 · 334 words Review by KnuppMello Spoilers 2 This review contains spoilers! Generally, stories that have a ghost theme in Doctor Who, are either very loved or considered meeeeh - In the case of "Ghost Walk" we have a complex ghostly story with several comical pinches and multiple facets making its twists brilliant. Here we don't have that typical cliché of a dark haunted house lit by candles, the ghosts are used more intelligently as a kind of thematic device rather than being a predictable mystery. Besides being experimental, the story is expansive and very versatile being very engaging every minute presenting very well a mix between suspense, some good scary moments and the right amount of humour. The audio also plays with some different narrative structures, in addition to giving the three companions their own isolated blocks to develop them, we have some brilliant insights such as showing the end of part 1 and then using the remaining time to show the tense events that led to that point. And as I love hearing Sarah Sutton's voice, again doing a fantastic job, Nyssa's block is incredibly interesting and a bit distressing too (I mean in the sense of concern), for example at the moment when the companion is accused of being a witch and is plunged into a lake (I heard a The Witchfinders in Chibnall). Janet Fielding also, I love the dynamics between Tegan and the 5th Doctor, and of course as usual we have those classic moments of disagreements between the two which this time ended up giving us a very cute moment, the companion even openly says that the reason for all this nagging, is because she cares a lot about the Doctor. As for Adric, I don't know... I might change my mind listening to other audios, but I feel the same lack of sparkle seen in the TV series, it's strange to hear Adric with an adult voice (of course it would be impossible for Matthew Waterhouse to have the same voice as when he was a pre-teen, obviously he aged) but I don't know... it still seems a bit strange. This story is straight up horror. It's hopeless, it's bleak, it's atmospheric, it's scary. It might be the bleakest story yet. There's a specific moment in part one, where nyssa is held by the, as yet unknown, entity. its a truly spine chilling moment and sarah sutton really sells the moment. one quote in particular from a later part stands out. nyssa develops a close relationship with matthew, the village reverend who falls in love with her. she rejects him and he later accuses of her being a witch. nyssa is betrayed and hurt but the specific line "matthew, is this all because i said no?" hits HARD, especially with her delivery. the ending is delivered perfectly as well. everything gets tied up and explained. gothoperas View profile Like Liked 4 24 November 2024 · 7 words Review by Rock_Angel 1 Oh she ate that up banger story Rock_Angel View profile Like Liked 1 26 June 2024 · 233 words Review by thedefinitearticle63 Spoilers 3 This review contains spoilers! This is part of a series of reviews of Doctor Who in chronological timeline order. Previous Story: Kingdom of Lies Another absolute banger in the Season 19 Main Range. This story is really clever, bit spooky and great fun. I knew this would be good by the part one cliffhanger. The stakes are high in this story and for once it really seems like the Doctor has fully lost. I was concerned that the story wouldn't get a satisfying resolution given how desperate and hopeless the situation was, thankfully this was not the case. I like the way the Doctor's rescue of the companions was foreshadowed by some of Adric's words. Nyssa had an interesting little romance plot, I think it was really well written and I'm glad that there's finally a character in a historical with a bit of common sense. Atleast, for a while, until he betrays Nyssa which I honestly didn't expect. The companoins getting straight up executed was not something I expected but I had figured out how they would be saved soon after. The ghost Doctor's dynamic with Leanne was quite funny and I enjoy how it was revealed that he was the voice that she was hearing. In general this is a great little adventure, the side characters are fun, the main cast are funner and the villain is exceptionally ominous.
