This could not have been a more generic commentary on climate change and corporate greed if it tried. That said, it was a perfectly fine commentary. It got the job done. The Daleks were... well, there I guess. It was unremarkable, though not tedious. As always, Leela is the highlight here with Louise Jameson giving her all to fight against becoming a Roboman. And though Leela costume remarks are tiresome at best, I can't deny I did get a kick out of how much she enjoyed wearing trainers. sircarolyn View profile Like Liked 2 16 January 2025 · 92 words Review by KnuppMello Spoilers 2 This review contains spoilers! Honestly, there isn't much to say about "Energy Of The Daleks" other than it is a weak and predictable story with a plot that doesn't bring any great surprises or memorable moments. It is that typical audio that you listen to while just waiting for things to happen while thinking "How is the Doctor going to defeat the Daleks this time?". Its conclusion is very simple and presents nothing surprising; some situations within the plot are easily resolved. In summary, a typical generic Dalek story with a very unimpressive generic Dalek plan. (Translation generated by AI, so mistakes are possible). It's always surreal seeing Leela and 4 in the 21st century (I like that she gets to wear trainers and really likes them lol) and the message here is very good, as are the side characters. That said... Idk, there's something very hokey about this story. It feels like that fake Dalek story at the beginning of Jubilee where the Daleks are just moving the earth or the moon again, for some reason. And the commentary is all very surface level. The Daleks going back and doing the same to humanity what the Doctor nearly did to them should have made for some great writing, especially with 4 of all doctors, but they just... Don't do anything with it. Nearly fell asleep halfway through haha. Solid enough, however, but I probably won't be coming back to it anytime soon. If I remember correctly, he wasn't like this when he fought them in Genesis, so I'm surprised that he's a bit silly when around them now. However, he does have his serious moments and this story does keep a balance between the two, which works. Poor Leela! Kidnapped, tortured! No wonder she liked pushing a Dalek about when she got the chance! The pair show some great teamwork together and it's awesome that they got to have a story against the Daleks, because these stories are usually when they show their true colours. I think this is the only Dalek story in the range, which is good because it means that it's always exciting when they show up rarely. I've said this before and I say it again - I don't like Daleks in Big Finish because of their voices. It's such a disappointment that they can't get the voice changer for the Classic Daleks and go for the New Who ones. I don't like that they do that. Their plan was a bit basic, which is good for a two-parter, but it was resolved far too easily. Nice return of the Robomen, though. Both the Daleks and the Robomen are intimidating and it's great that the Daleks' plan basically worked, just in the wrong way. Coulson had some great development, having to fight his own friend, and eventually coming together one last time - This series has had some really sad B-plots which the stories don't focus on too much. However, I think it was balanced just right to service the plot but not take it over. I can't really see this in the Fourth Doctor's era, but it's a nice break from four consistent Hinchcliffe-Era stories, and is a decent Dalek story set in the "future". However, like a lot of Season 1, it's nothing special.
