Synopsis

Bliss used to be a paradise planet. The Galápagos Islands of space. But when the TARDIS brings the Doctor, Ace and Hex to Bliss, it's been over-run with ironweed plants, and the air is heavy with the stench of burnt silk and static electricity.

Worse, the Daleks are coming, on the trail of a lost patrol of starship troopers. Holed up in the Roarke 279 research facility, Lieutenant Beth Stokes is preparing her last stand against the invaders.

But there's a secret on Bliss, a secret guarded by the obsessive Professor Shimura...

This time, could it be the Daleks need saving?

Previous Story: The Magic Mousetrap

As far as Dalek stories go it's pretty good. In fact, as far as stories go in general it's pretty good. I like the base-under-siege vibes. If I had to describe this story it would be "Doctor Who meets Doom" complete with soundtrack and all. Granted, I haven't actually played Doom so feel free to ignore that statement. The song that everybody was humming did start to get on my nerves.

I'm not sure I like the way 7/Ace/Hex is going. I'm just not sure I like this whole hyper-manipulative characterisation of the Doctor, even if I do think McCoy's performances are consistently one of the best things in every story. That's not a problem with this story in particular though, moreso a general observation.

Enjoyed this one a fair bit and it's always great to have a Dalek story that doesn't make you die from boredom.

Here is another case where I am not enchanted by a "Dalek story". This may sound a bit strange to those who follow the channel, you must be wondering "What do you mean, he no longer likes Dalek stories??...Genesis?? Revelation?? Remembrance??". Yes, I like Dalek stories and still give credit to great and iconic stories of the genre (such as the ones mentioned earlier and Jubilee, Terror Firma, Resurrection, Dalek among others) - However, for some time now, I confess that I no longer have high expectations when I come across another adventure that involves the dreaded "Salt Shakers". The reason goes by the fact that I started to notice the existence of a certain repetition, the same "cake recipe" is always repeated - In the majority of cases we have a planet (or a people) that is at war with the Daleks, initially they are the surprise element until someone yells "DALEKS!" (the opening theme plays) and BAM. In "Enemy Of The Daleks" the same happens, I honestly could not feel the grandeur that many felt when hearing this audio, for me just another GOOD Dalek story that has nothing distinctive - I want to highlight two things that bothered me in this story, the first is the repetition of the concept of "Genesis Of The Daleks" but this time applied to other creatures (the Kiseibya), this bothered me a bit and made everything very predictable. And the second annoyance is the soundtrack that is basically "rock" with a heavy guitar...Initially it is cool, but the lack of significant variation by the music compositions, made the tracks quite tedious and a bit boring to listen to.

A bloody action movie with Daleks, written by THE David Bishop, with blasting Rock'N'Roll soundtrack - what else do you need?

One of those stories where Daleks do feel like a serious threat.

Also, huge respect for hiring an actual Japanese actor to play a Japanese character.
