Cold Fusion é um dos poucos casos da linha Novel Adaptations que foram escritos pelo próprio autor da obra original, Lance Parkin repete o sucesso alcançado em seu livro entregando um enredo de 3 longas horas de duração longe de ser maçante apresentando uma progressão narrativa solida e instigante. Tem muita coisa acontecendo aqui, o ouvinte pode até mesmo se assustar com os diversos elementos envolvidos, mas quando começamos a questionar se tudo será devidamente bem desenvolvido e aproveitado, o resultado final não decepciona, tudo se conecta, se mistura em perfeita sintonia funcionando muito bem do primeiro ao último minuto de áudio. Falando em mistura, o multi Doctors e multi companions é o ingrediente principal para o enorme sucesso de Cold Fusion - Dando mais destaques a equipe do 5° Doctor, interessante notar que mesmo posicionado com um papel de coadjuvante na trama, o 7° Doctor sempre está com passos mais a frente utilizando seu famoso jogo manipulativo que conhecemos. Logo as duas equipes se entrelaçam trazendo uma dinâmica incrível e muita das vezes bem cômica, posso destacar por exemplo a Tegan extremamente irrita com Chris Cwej que escolhe como disfarce ser um Australiano estereotipado, a ingenuidade de Nyssa em suas interações com Chris, o encontro do 7° com Adric amargo e triste, notamos o time lord tentando esconder seus sentimentos de tristeza e decepção. Já o enredo em si, conceitos e eventos estão um pouco longe de ser a coisa mais brilhante e genial já visto na série, basicamente uma história que evolve fantasmas e alienígenas de outro universo que ameaçam o nosso universo se resultando em uma longa corrida de sobrevivência, na verdade isso tudo serve como um plano de fundo para uma divertida interação e piadas dos personagens, talvez o fator que mais chame atenção é aparição Gallifreyana “Patience” que foi uma suposta esposa do Doctor e do Omega também mãe do pai de Susan, confesso que nem se quer sabia de sua existência, fui tomar conhecimento da personagem agora. Em resumo, por mais cansativo que seja uma experiência de 3 horas, ainda acho que vale muito apena reservar um tempo para Cold Fusion que sem sombra de duvidas está entre as melhores Novel Adaptations da BIG FINISH.

Its the character moments in this that make Cold Fusion really sparkle. The interactions between Tegan and Chris pretending to be the Australian “Mr Jovanka” are priceless.

Unlike other multi-doctor stories they don’t get caught up in the boring process of comparing personalities - as there is actually a plot and they have something to do (even if it is just a bit of a run around). The idea of having the 7th Doctor as more of a background figure means that his presence continues to pack a real punch whenever he pops up.

After listening to it twice over the last couple of months I’m still not sure I 100% understand all of the facets of the plot - but it’s thoroughly enjoyable nonetheless (and it gives me an excuse to spin it a third time some day).

Would you class this as a 7th doctor story or a 5th doctor story either way it f**king slaps

I was quite looking forward to this, though I don't know why as I didn't know much about it.

The Fifth Doctor along with Tegan, Adric and Nyssa arrive on a planet where some time disturbances are happening; the interesting thing is the the Seventh Doctor is also present accompanied by Roz Forrester and Chris Cwej, throw in another timelord and it would seem to be a packed adventure.

It took a bit of time for stuff to get going, and maybe the fact this was a novel is why. Also a few episodes in I was wondering what the plot was. Nyssa and Tegan separated from the Doctor early on and didn't seem to be achieving much, while the Doctor and Adric seemed to be drifting along with no real intent.

There are a number of strands in this, with the companions all off doing different things and it was a case of suddenly picking up from where we left them but it being so long that it took a bit of thinking to remember what they were up to. By which time you've missed what they're doing now.

Although I knew the names Roz Forrester and Chris Cwej it didn't really occur to me who they were till halfway through - I wasn't a follower of the new adventures and some of the references I wasn't that familer with.

Its 6 parts long the last being nearly 40 minutes, so its bit to get through.

I feel this was probably a good novel but hasn't translated as such in audio, there are some nice things going on, good settings, and possibly a relisten would help.
