To celebrate the 100th release of their main line called Main Range, BIG FINISH decided to do a sort of 4-in-1 with each story only lasting 30 minutes, starting with "100 BC" written by Jacqueline Rayner - Believing they are at some point in 100 BC, the TARDIS travellers meet the parents of Roman Emperor Julius Caesar. After receiving the news of the birth of their baby, who was given the name Julia Caesar and not Julius Caesar, convinced that they had some involvement altering history, this fact causes a huge confusion pitting Evelyn against the Doctor. There is a huge portion of fans who completely discredit this story by Jacqueline Rayner for making a gross continuity error regarding the characterization of Evelyn; she ignores all the previous development of her personality, making her completely ignorant and forgetting the fact that the companion not only possesses intelligence but also a whole load of experience during her travels in the TARDIS to understand that fixed points cannot be altered in the history of the universe. Another gigantic oversight is the fact that the Doctor and Evelyn (a university history teacher) completely forget about the existence of Julius Caesar's sister. Believing in the historical alteration they committed, Evelyn stands against the Doctor wanting the Roman Empire to be led by a woman (in this case, Julia Caesar), even opting for a much better choice, unfortunately, that is not what history books tell us, so the 6th Doctor tries to prevent his companion. Even recognizing the good intentions of the writer's criticism, it is impossible to nullify the fact that this creates numerous contradictions and inconsistencies in relation to previous audio dramas and the construction of the character, even with that in my opinion all this is compensated by the comedic tone of its plot which brings very hilarious and very funny discussions and fights between the two characters, I laughed a lot haha In the end it all turns out to be a misunderstanding a confusion of dates made by the TARDIS and the story remains intact. In summary, my experience was fun and ended up taking more into account the fun factor than focusing on chronological logic. And what do you think about it? It's an interesting debate, huh. This is part of a series of reviews of Doctor Who in chronological timeline order. Previous Story: Pier Pressure This was a really weird one. The Doctor and Evelyn were quite out of character but Evelyn in particular. She was actively trying to change history to an extreme extent, in the form of making Julius Caesar be born as a girl. It just felt really strange considering her character arc and especially the fact that she faked feeling ill to get away from the Doctor. And then at the end it turned out none of this even had a point. Next Story: My Own Private Wolfgang thedefinitearticle63 View profile Like Liked 2 Open in new window Statistics AVG.
