Stories set in the Middle Ages

The Middle Ages is generally considered to be the period from the 5th Century to the end of the 14th Century and the dawn of the Renaissance period. Doctor Who has explored this period with a wide range of adventures visiting every corner of the world. This guide will help you experience life in Medieval England, face Vikings and Caliphates and meet historical figures such as Marco Polo, King Richard and Robin Hood.

410 – The Library of Alexandria:

The Doctor, Ian, Barbara and Susan visit the great Library of Alexandria and find themselves meeting famed philosopher, Hypatia, but caught up in its destruction.

c505 & 521 – Black and White:

The legend of Beowulf and Grendel gets a Doctor Who twist in this tale which also involves the mystery of the Black and White TARDISes.

Tegan is transported to 10th Century Mercia by an experimental time machine at the University of Frodsham.

966 – They Think It’s All Over: 

Heading to Wembley for the 1966 World Cup, the Eleventh Doctor, Amy and Rory but end up mediating between Saxons and Vikings through the medium of a football match.
