Review of What He Wants… by thewomanintheship

28 February 2025

This review contains spoilers!

This is my favorite story in this series so far! Very atmospheric and I loved the accidental kidnapping of the singer. The overarching story continues to unfold and I’m loving it!

Review of The Friendly Place by thewomanintheship

28 February 2025

This review contains spoilers!

I loved the set up in this comic for what seems to be a larger arc! The Eleventh Doctor really suits these timey-wimey, meeting-people-in-the-wrong-order plots like this one hints at. I’m excited to continue reading and see what SERVEYOUINC really is!

Review of After Life by thewomanintheship

28 February 2025

This was a really fun yet heartfelt and emotional story! It does a great job at introducing Alice and quickly fleshing her character out, and the antagonist of the story is actually very cute (it’s a big alien dog).

Review of The Dalmatian Terrain by thewomanintheship

27 February 2025

This review contains spoilers!

I'll be honest, I was listening to the audiobook version of this more out of obligation than actual desire to read it. I was borrowing the 15 Doctors, 15 Stories from a digital library mainly to listen to the 13th Doctor story that had been added, and while I had it borrowed I thought I would catch up on the 12th and 15th Doctors' stories.

All that to explain, I really wasn't in the right mood or headspace to enjoy this one, and mainly listened to it in the background while doing other things. The idea of a planet full of dogs was interesting, and I thought the escaping-from-prison-by-playing-fetch scene was fun. I might have to circle back and reread this sometime when I'm actually in the mood for a 15 and Ruby story!

Review of The Arts in Space by thewomanintheship

27 February 2025

I liked the first issue in this story better than the second--the second was a little too weird for my taste.

I did love how, in the first part of the story especially, it's told in the form of Gabby writing a letter to her friend. The handwritten-ness of it, along with the illustrations sketched as though it was Gabby drawing them, really spoke to me!

Review of The Morning of the Day of the Doctor by thewomanintheship

27 February 2025

This review contains spoilers!

This was probably my second favourite story in The Adventures Before. It follows Osgood on the morning of the Day of the Doctor and explains why Osgood had Kate's personal phone at the beginning of that episode in a hilarious and entertaining way. I enjoyed the Curator's appearance, and his compliment of Osgood's scarf! I also appreciated how it expanded on McGillop's character. However, I felt the conclusion faltered in that it left a lot of plotlines hanging that weren't resolved in the Day of the Doctor; particularly what would happen to McGillop who I don't recall ever appearing after the episode. I'm hoping that the sequel book to this short story collection that's coming out in 2025 will include a linked story that ties this one up a little better!
