It might actually be my favorite story of the season! The whole serial is so fun, especially the last two parts, and the main trio is great. Harry Sullivan is an imbecile (and we love him for that). tardis-technician View profile Like Liked 1 18 June 2025 · 132 words BBC BooksThe Resurrection Casket tardis-technician 1 Review of The Resurrection Casket by tardis-technician 18 June 2025 I absolutely adore this book. This book is so 10/10 it’s ridiculous. I read it in one day. Every character in this book is great, and the humor is spot on. I properly, actually grinned during the Doctor and “Kevin’s” first meeting. Almost every NSA has a Doctor and companionless cold open which introduces characters/problems the Doctor and companion will run into later. Usually it’s five pages of basically waiting for the book to actually start. This was the first one I can remember that actually hooked me immediately. Normally I take notes when reading the NSAs, but I was so absorbed I went basically halfway through the book without writing anything down. If you only read a few NSAs, be sure to read this one, especially if you’re a Rose fan. tardis-technician View profile Like Liked 1 18 June 2025 · 79 words BBC BooksThe Nightmare of Black Island tardis-technician Review of The Nightmare of Black Island by tardis-technician 18 June 2025 If you’re a ten and Rose fan I have a feeling you’ll like this book, even if the plot is a bit silly (even by Doctor Who standards). I’m not 100% sure how to describe this book other than it felt a little like watching ten and Rose play a point and click adventure game, but in a fun way. I didn’t find anything to be standout or spectacular, but I thought it was a nice and fairly quick read! tardis-technician View profile Like Liked 0 18 June 2025 · 103 words BBC BooksSting of the Zygons tardis-technician 1 Review of Sting of the Zygons by tardis-technician 18 June 2025 I thought the book was nice, but it didn’t particularly stand out compared to some other NSAs. However, it does have some nice banter between Martha and the Doctor, and it’s fun to see Martha play detective while the Doctor just wanders around. The way the Zygons are used is interesting, and while most of the story felt pretty slow, the action picks up quite a bit towards the end. I’m also always just a sucker for fun Martha content. Overall an enjoyable read! We also get a fun bit of world building. The Doctor calls all horses Arthur. As always, it’s a joy to see the Doctor and Martha working as a duo. I thought the ending was a little anticlimactic, but the rest of the book was so enjoyable that I’d still definitely recommend it. The book explores some really interesting concepts, with an exciting mystery set against a backdrop about what it means to be “real.” tardis-technician View profile Like Liked 1 18 June 2025 · 60 words BBC BooksWishing Well tardis-technician Review of Wishing Well by tardis-technician 18 June 2025 A quick and enjoyable read. There are a lot of fun wacky moments, and it’s wonderful as always to see the Doctor and Martha bouncing off of each other. This is another Martha NSA I really would’ve loved to see during season three. Fun adventure with interesting side characters. It’s not my favorite NSA, but I’d still definitely recommend it! tardis-technician View profile Like Liked 0 18 June 2025 · 109 words BBC BooksThe Pirate Loop tardis-technician Review of The Pirate Loop by tardis-technician 18 June 2025 This book had a slow start, but once it picked up it was a roller coaster to the end. This is definitely one of my favorite New Series Adventures books. The story is great overall, but Martha especially gets to shine. Guerrier shines a light on how unique and interesting her character is, both through her interactions with others and through her internal dialogue. The adventure feels both wacky and high stakes, somehow combining a real sense of danger with laugh out loud moments. The side characters are all memorable, the Doctor and Martha are great, and the story's twists and turns end with a satisfying conclusion. Highly recommend! tardis-technician View profile Like Liked 0 18 June 2025 · 133 words BBC BooksMartha in the Mirror tardis-technician 1 Review of Martha in the Mirror by tardis-technician 18 June 2025 I loved this book! The banter between ten and Martha is really fun, and I thought the author did a great with their characterization. There were a lot of little lines in this book, both between Martha and the Doctor and just in general, that made me smile. The first few chapters I thought it was going to be a fairly paint by numbers mystery that I’d have to sit through just for the sake of watching the Doctor and Martha interact with it, but it started to change and pick up speed. I genuinely found it really fun. This story probably wouldn’t have worked for TV, since a lot of it is just moving around one location, but it’s phenomenal as a book. An overall solid and fun ten and Martha adventure! tardis-technician View profile Like Liked 1 18 June 2025 · 113 words BBC BooksSnowglobe 7 tardis-technician Review of Snowglobe 7 by tardis-technician 18 June 2025 One of my favorite things about the New Series Adventures novels is that they can explore stories that just wouldn't hit as hard on screen. There’s nothing wrong with this book, but it does feel like more of a traditional episode. There’s almost no utilization of internal dialogue, which I think has been the stronger point of many NSA books. However, the story is consistently interesting, and it has a lot of great action and suspense. It's much darker and more intense than most NSAs, and it works well. It’s not one of my favorites, but it’s definitely solid. If you’re looking to read more than one or two NSAs I’d recommend it. tardis-technician View profile Like Liked 0 18 June 2025 · 79 words BBC BooksShining Darkness tardis-technician Review of Shining Darkness by tardis-technician 18 June 2025 I really enjoyed this book! The action was fun, and the interactions between the Doctor and Donna are golden. I thought Donna's characterization in particular was excellent! I will say, the book is trying to use a sort of heavy handed metaphor with robots to discuss prejudice (common in sci-fi), and while I think the message is good, it was executed in a somewhat awkward manner. I’d still recommend this book, just something to keep in mind expectation wise. tardis-technician View profile Like Liked 0 18 June 2025 · 189 words BBC BooksThe Story of Martha tardis-technician Review of The Story of Martha by tardis-technician 18 June 2025 So one of the fun things about this book is that it’s an anthology, with a series of stories being told by Martha during her year on the run. The stories are generally fun, but it’s the overarching story that takes place during the present that makes this book shine. Martha Jones deserves compensation. After every story, we return to Martha on the run (also Martha’s personal hell). The physical and mental stuff she goes through is brutal. This book delves into all the experiences that turned Martha from a med student into a soldier. This book had me thinking about a post I saw that said Martha should’ve had the big hero moment at the end of the season 3 finale. Because while she’s telling stories about the Doctor, the Master’s men are saying she’s already become a figurehead of the rebellion by week 7. I loved that everywhere Martha went, she picked up her own companions (often to her advantage, sometimes to her chagrin). While I’ve loved a lot of the NSAs, this is the only one I think has actually enhanced some of the TV stories for me. 10/10. tardis-technician View profile Like Liked 0 17 June 2025 · 95 words BBC BooksThe Slitheen Excursion tardis-technician Review of The Slitheen Excursion by tardis-technician 17 June 2025 Don’t let the fact that this book doesn’t feature a full time companion put you off, June is an absolute gem. I would’ve been thrilled if she’d gotten a TV season. A contemporary companion who’s a historian has all kinds of wonderful potential, and this book certainly meets it. I just love everything about this book. This is the second NSA I’ve read by Simon Guerrier, and he’s churned out another banger. Great Doctor moments, both humorous and angsty, a fantastic temporary companion, compelling character interactions, and a unique plot. One of my favorite NSAs! tardis-technician View profile Like Liked 0 17 June 2025 · 138 words BBC BooksPrisoner of the Daleks tardis-technician 1 Review of Prisoner of the Daleks by tardis-technician 17 June 2025 I actually expected to like this book more than I did. It’s not bad, I just found it to be alright. I thought the book had some exceptional standout moments/lines, but I wasn’t a fan of the side characters, and you spend a lot of time with them in this book. I do think that the Daleks are properly, genuinely scary in this book. You can tell everyone, including the Doctor, is afraid of them, and with good reason. The author does a great job of making it feel like there are proper stakes. I did feel the Doctor’s characterization was a little all over the place, but it might have been intentional, since they were really going through it in this book. Not the go to NSA I’d recommend, but I think it’s worth a read. tardis-technician View profile Like Liked 1 17 June 2025 · 60 words BBC BooksAutonomy tardis-technician Review of Autonomy by tardis-technician 17 June 2025 There’s nothing particularly bad about Autonomy. Actually there are some pretty fun moments! However, I didn’t think Kate, the temporary companion, was very interesting. The story also felt like it dragged on a bit at some points. I think it could have benefited from being a short story rather than a novel, but it still worked alright as a book. tardis-technician View profile Like Liked 0 19 May 2025 · 72 words Pest Control & The Forever Trap VinylThe Forever Trap tardis-technician Spoilers Review of The Forever Trap by tardis-technician 19 May 2025 This review contains spoilers! I didn't feel like a lot happened except for an absolutely banger conversation between the Doctor and Donna roughly halfway through, but it only lasts about a minute. It’s a great minute though, and although I didn't find the rest spectacular, it was still definitely fun. The Doctor and Donna get trapped in a living building/space ponzi scheme, and if nothing else I think the premise alone definitely earns some stars. tardis-technician View profile Like Liked 0 19 May 2025 · 90 words Short TripsWar Stories tardis-technician 2 Review of War Stories by tardis-technician 19 May 2025 Bill thinks the ninth doctor looks like a lesbian she used to have a crush on. Five stars. In all seriousness, I found this story super fun and engaging. Both twelve and Bill felt very in character, and it was fun to see them bounce off of one another. Bill in particular had some great moments. I'm used to listening to full cast audio dramas, so I thought having one narrator might take me out of the story a bit, but I liked it so much I didn't really notice! tardis-technician View profile Like Liked 2 11 May 2025 · 48 words Doctor Who Specials The Infinite Quest tardis-technician 2 Review of The Infinite Quest by tardis-technician 11 May 2025 While the animation is (extremely) rough, and the plot is basically a fetch quest, I still thoroughly enjoyed watching this just for the pleasure of listening to ten and Martha banter for 45 minutes. That's certainly not going to be enough for everyone, but it was enough for me. tardis-technician View profile Like Liked 2 25 December 2024 · 70 words BBC New Series AdventuresThe Nemonite Invasion tardis-technician 2 Review of The Nemonite Invasion by tardis-technician 25 December 2024 This was a fun listen. Nothing super special, but a good time. The biggest issue was that it was about half an hour longer than it needed to be, and it would’ve done better without a third of the cast. It was still enjoyable though. Donna gets her own companion, the Doctor has a classic Moral Dilemma, and there’s a cute moment between the two of them at the end. tardis-technician View profile Like Liked 2 25 December 2024 · 97 words BBC BooksThe Eyeless tardis-technician 2 Review of The Eyeless by tardis-technician 25 December 2024 A lot of what makes this book so great is its mystery, so I don’t want to say too much. I will say that it’s set in the tenth Doctor specials era, probably immediately before or after Waters of Mars, and the Doctor is not well. I basically read this in one sitting. There's no companion for the Doctor to really bounce off of for a lot of this book, so we spend a lot of time just in his head, and boy is it a mess in there (in the most interesting possible way). Highly recommend. tardis-technician View profile Like Liked 2 25 December 2024 · 108 words BBC BooksBeautiful Chaos tardis-technician Review of Beautiful Chaos by tardis-technician 25 December 2024 God this book was so good. Really incredible insight into Donna’s family, her relationships, and how the Doctor fits into her life. The Doctor and Donna are written beautifully in this book. The side characters all shine as well, including Wilf and, surprisingly, Sylvia. Netty, who’s introduced in this book, owns my whole heart. This book has the same type of crazy alien shenanigans most Doctor Who has, but it was also a lot more down to earth. Everything going on was really just an excuse to do a bit of character study, and it works wonderfully. This is hands down one of my favorite Doctor Who books. tardis-technician View profile Like Liked 0 25 December 2024 · 142 words BBC BooksIn the Blood tardis-technician 1 Review of In the Blood by tardis-technician 25 December 2024 This book made me nuts. There is so much going on here. If I’d read this before the 60th specials I think it would’ve broken me. I don’t really know what to say about this book other than it’s hands down my favorite Doctor Who book of all time. There were moments I had to pause and re-read a line because it was that much of a banger. I was literally grinning like an idiot through a third of this book. Perfect mix of humor, drama, and action. Amazing interactions between the Doctor and Donna. Would definitely recommend. Also, If I had a nickel for every time the Doctor told something to kill him, then twenty minutes later climbed up on a high structure and got electrocuted, I’d have two nickels (but it's weird that it's happened twice) tardis-technician View profile Like Liked 2 24 December 2024 · 36 words BBC BooksForever Autumn tardis-technician 2 Review of Forever Autumn by tardis-technician 24 December 2024 The idea, which was more or less to have a Halloween episode, was a fun one.
