Review of Reflect by darkmagicsauce

12 June 2025

This review contains spoilers!

Ace and Colchester sitting down and telling spooky ghost stories. Wonderful premise, I loved Colchester's story about being companionship with another gay man, such a powerful story of solidarity and compassion. While it didn't end up being the sole focus, I appreciated the time spent on it!

Review of Greeks Bearing Gifts by darkmagicsauce

12 June 2025

This review contains spoilers!

I loved the nonchalant-ness of Tosh having a sapphic relationship, like yeah shes being manipulated by an alien, who just happens to be in a female body. I liked how Tosh's relationship was the focus of the story but didn't feel self-congratulatory of having WLW representation. The story was on the relationship itself and the manipulation happening there!

... the line at the end... who... WHY, why WTF why, just, it, hes from the 51st century, why are you being weird !!???? *groans in 2000s weirdness*

Review of Wild Animals by darkmagicsauce

12 June 2025

I adore this episode. This is such a beautiful distillation of the Doctor, seeing how they react to situations so similar to the real world. I'm unsure how intentional this was, but I also think this is a wonderful exploration of the Doctor neurodivergence (compared to other episodes like the scene in Under the Lake). Seeing him struggle to understand why he can't help solve the problems of the story when he knows how useful he could be.

I'll now be talking about Tania's scene at the end of the episode: I love how this episode handles Tania's coming out scene and Liv's subsequent response. Previously we've seen Liv have a nonchalant attitude towards disabled people, such as Martin in A Life in the Day, I love how this is extended to Tania's gender. Tania has presented Liv with a fact that may scare some people off and Liv diffuses the situation with such indifference and care. I loved this scene when I first listened to it, this is peak trans representation.

Review of Cuckoo by darkmagicsauce

20 July 2024

Cuckoo is one of my favorite stories from the entire run of Torchwood. The new characters we're introduced to all feel like they could easily have had a prequel monthly audio I missed based on how much depth they all have. Billis is chilling and calm as always. I love all the callbacks to More Than This and Cardiff Unknown. 5/5 one of the poster stories for what Torchwood can be.
