Review of The Lost Angel by SteffiJen

25 March 2025

Not a bad story in itself, but ruined for me by the bizarre way the Doctor was voiced. The narrator's accent for him swings wildly across most of the Celtic nations.

Review of Rhythm of Destruction by SteffiJen

14 March 2025

I borrowed Rhythm Of Destruction as an e-audiobook from the library. Dan Starkey's narration is excellent and I will certainly look out for more of his audiobooks. The story itself was entertaining and reminded me a little of a moment in The Hitch-hiker's Guide to the Galaxy, albeit with a jazz band in lieu of rock.

Review of Regeneration Impossible by SteffiJen

2 February 2025

An ok story which kept me entertained. I loved, however, how Jacob Dudman captured each of the Doctors' voices and characters. I'll definitely be looking out for more stories performed by this narrator!

Review of The Dalek Occupation of Winter by SteffiJen

Bleak, but utterly compelling! Peter Purves does the Doctor brilliantly.

Review of Joy to the World by SteffiJen

25 December 2024

This review contains spoilers!

Good, but too sentimental for me towards the end. I did love Ncuti throughout the story, but I felt that Anita came across as a more developed character than Joy and she had a stronger chemistry with the Doctor which unbalanced the relationships aspect.

Lots of fun Moffat touches and observations which I enjoyed. I'll probably watch this again soon as, overall, it was fun.

Review of Primord by SteffiJen

24 December 2024

Great to discover a Liz Shaw story from Big Finish. Liz is one of my favourite companions and I'd wished she'd had a longer tenure in the TV series. Having her voiced by Caroline John's daughter here, together with Tim Treloar's Doctor and Jon Culshaw's brilliant Brigadier made the whole production feel like an undiscovered original. Very enjoyable.

Review of Doctor Who and the Crusaders by SteffiJen

23 December 2024

This review contains spoilers!

Took me a while to get into this story, even with William Russell himself reading the audio version. On the whole I enjoyed it though.

There are a couple of surprisingly strong scenes later on, especially considering this was intended to be a children's story!

Cute short story! I enjoyed reading this earlier idea for the scenario.

Review of Doctor Who: The Myth Makers by SteffiJen

5 December 2024

A brilliant retelling of the Trojan Horse myth with the Doctor, Steven and Vicki managing to get themselves right into the middle of everything. I particularly loved Homer's sense of humour which chimed perfectly with mine.

Review of Deep and dreamless sleep by SteffiJen

2 December 2024

A lovely short story which almost had me in tears. Cornell is so good at creating atmospheric moments, and at portraying emotion without going saccharine!

A perfect Christmas read.
