Review of The Indestructible Man by Scharffy

29 June 2025

This book is so insane. It's very bleak and horrifying but it's also very good. The author has described that he did not want it to be an "exercise in nostalgia" and that it doesn't really feel like a "doctor who book" which is accurate, it's very much its own original story, and that the doctor, jamie, and zoe are there doesn't affect much other than their roles in the story. it's hard to read because each of the tardis crew members go through a lot of traumatic experiences and are irreparably damaged, so i can't really see it as canon in doctor who just because it's far too damaging. However it's still an interesting experiment in how zoe, jamie, and the doctor would react and grow and adapt to situations as terrible as these, and overall I think the alien concept is interesting and the side characters are entertaining enough. again, it really is just torturing the main characters so I wouldn't recommend this for any light reading with your favorite characters. the writing is very good but it is very, very depressing overall. good story, makes me sick.

Review of The War Games in Colour by Scharffy

12 January 2025

This review contains spoilers!

everything has probably been said about this already. not gonna talk about the war chief/master controversy. I do get that they had to cut it down to 90 minutes but it feels like most of the war games was cut out, and we didn't see much of jamie/zoe. I am happy we got lots of jennifer/carstairs (beloved two/jamie parallels) but I wish we saw less of the HQ - inside and out.. - and more of the resistance group, because that feels the most parallel to two's crew, as well as the best way to show jamie/zoe development and growth from their introductions, which would make their departure hit a lot harder, especially for new viewers who haven't seen the original. The colors were beautiful but I don't count this as my personal view of canon lol, i don't think anyone does.

Review of The Dark Path by Scharffy

insane.....two-era thoschei, amazing Victoria introspection that takes her away from this self-preservation vein to a more Generally Traumatized & Emotionally Intuitive one, and of course two/jamie work great.

Review of The Piltdown Men by Scharffy

12 January 2025

really great look at Two if it's treated as s6b with their weird essentialist values that crumble & the general themes of grief. Love to see this with "lares domestici" as Two pretty deep into s6b but not so late because it's without Jamie/mention of World Game.

Review of Do You Dream in Colour? by Scharffy

12 January 2025

the best characterization of ben/polly that I've ready that perfectly captures their relationship post-tardis and the complexity of the circumstances they grew to love each other under in comparison to the realities they are in now. I think about this one every day.

Review of The British Invasion by Scharffy

12 January 2025

This review contains spoilers!

too much to be said about this one....parallel jamie/zoe isolation accounts, great look into Jamie even if it does taper off a bit randomly, and of course any mention of the vardans cannot be separated from Oliver Harper. Really neat scifi explanation of saying dead Vardans make up CMB, love that!! I really enjoyed this story even if bounced around.
