Review of Emancipation of the Daleks by DapperJev

23 September 2024

Emancipation of Daleks- a story that is much more in line with 1984 than Doctor Who. It's by far the most mature Big Finish story I've heard in such a long time. And it's a shame it's not a full cast audio drama with Pearl Mackie and Peter Capaldi. But this audio book is able to play into its niche audience and provide a really adult Doctor Who story. And I applaud it for that.

Review of The Lovecraft Invasion by DapperJev

22 September 2024

More than any, big finish story Lovecraft Invasion rings as a hollow attempt to critique and analyze Lovecraft as a human being and writer.

With clunky dialogue about his personal beliefs and a random character with no introduction or any particular interesting qualities.

Lovecraft Invasion lacks any depth to warrant it's runtime, and especially the price. With a valley of references to Lovecrafts work shoehorned in, than dropped at a notice. Especially with characters explaining what they look like for the audience. Taking us out of the action to go. "That's not how people talk."

What a disappointment ultimately, there's brief moments where we see some form of an emotional development for the characters introduced in this story. But it's not enough to combat. "Lovecraft racist, Lovecraft bad."

Review of Shadow of the Sun by DapperJev

The story has much more to tell yet it cuts off before any interesting concepts or morality can be explored. A fun throw back to the Fourth Doctor era. But one that lacks substance.

Review of Night of the Vashta Nerada by DapperJev

8 July 2024

This review contains spoilers!

It's a cute Doctor Who does Jurassic Park. Outside of the novelty of hearing the Fourth Doctor, and the vashta nerada. There's very little substance. Taking a "Capitalism is bad route." With paper thin side characters. It's too short of a premise to have any real depth to it. Whether it be through character dynamics or how the villain is defeated. Not a need to listen to set. But not a bad one either. It's fine.

It's a masterpiece. Top 10 big finish stories of all time.
