Review of The Endless Night by CptnOfTheYellowSub

25 May 2025

This review contains spoilers!

In this universe, Jackie and Pete broke up years ago and never had Rose, but Our Rose brings them closer together while trapped in either Pete or Jackie's fault (I don't remember which) just as the whole universe is going dark and they are about to die of the cold cause there is no sun. It's really cute and definitely captures the Family First undertones of the early RTD era.

Jackie/Pete, soulmates in every universe but Rose can't save them.

Review of Prisoner of the Ood by CptnOfTheYellowSub

2 April 2025

That is not how the Ood work.

Suburban setting.

Villian bait and switch.

I'll admit I did not see the plot twist coming.

A couple of the actresses sound too similar so I can't tell them apart but that may be a ME problem.

Review of Stolen Goods by CptnOfTheYellowSub

2 April 2025

I like Jenny immediately. She reminds me most of the 13th Doctor with her snark and positive outlook despite the circumstances.

The theme song is recognizable as Doctor Who but more feminine and sprightly almost to the point of chaos. Just like Jenny.

We get confirmation that Jenny is, in fact, genetically recognizable as a Time Lady. You'd think that'd be obvious but there used to be fan theories that she was something different or only half.

Jenny is however, a little too smart for someone who was literally born yesterday. I know she was programmed with a knowledge set up on birth but c'mon. There's no way she'd just instinctually know how to build a vortex manipulator from scratch.

The bad guys in this are the space equivalent of sketchy car salesman, who will upsell you for repairs you do not need. They kind of reminds me of Star Wars side characters. One is basically a space orc.

Noah is cute. Special cinnamon roll, too good for this world, too pure.

Review of The Mind Robber by CptnOfTheYellowSub

2 April 2025

The Land Of Fiction was such a creative setting. The could do so much with it. They should bring it back. You get the sense anything could happen in the land of fiction.

They stole my dear Jamie's face!

I like Zoe's sparkly jumpsuit.

There is a character in this one called the Master but he isn't THAT The Master, and that was confusing for my IRL friend who is not as into Doctor Who history as me, and so does not know Our The Master doesn't show up until the 3rd Doctor's era. I didn't set the record straight. I just let him think the Master was being oddly nice this time. My friend is a pudding brain who must be protected.

Review of Twenty-Four Doors in December by CptnOfTheYellowSub

2 April 2025

Simple and sugary comfort with my favourite audio companion Charley.

Audacity is there too, I guess.

Healing for my windbitten soul.

Review of Pandora by CptnOfTheYellowSub

2 April 2025

F you, Darkil or however you spell your name. Scheming, manipulative, old bat. An innocent young timelord is dead because of you.

I forgive you, Andred. I love you, Andred. I hope Leela comes around to forgiving you too.

I kinda ship Romana and Brax, tbh.

Review of Weapon of Choice by CptnOfTheYellowSub

2 April 2025

What if I think these "terrorists" have some fair points?

I feel for Leela. She's lost her husband, she's so alone yet surrounded by people who look down on her as a lesser intellect.

Review of Zagreus by CptnOfTheYellowSub

2 April 2025

I've had acid trips less weird than this.

I usually listen to these lying in bed with the lights off. I had to listen to this one twice in one day to make certain I hadn't dreamt it.

This audio has everything: in no particular order:

Vampires

Creatures from another plane of existence.

The old religion of Gallifrey.

The chesire cat from Alice in Wonderland.

Rassilon

Chopping wood

WW2

A priest

Creepy nursery rhymes

Charley's Mum

Carrots

Talking animatronics at war with each other.

Evil TARDIS

Multiple doctors only they're not playing The Doctor.

The Eighth Doctor trying to sacrifice himself yet again.

Review of Time Works by CptnOfTheYellowSub

2 April 2025

Have you ever felt like your only worth as a person is based in your productivity? If so you'll probably get something out of this.

This story takes the phrase "time is money" to the next level. They count every second like their life depends on it and can't be found wasting time.

The people at the top are no better or useful than the people at the bottom, and everyone is just a cog in the machine. You are irrelevant, they just want your time.

Can you tell this audio made me think about work?

The king is a pawn in a scheme of something greater. The prince is petulant and power hungry. The villians can stop time and even erase you from it. (If I remember correctly.)

It's been a few years since I've listened to this audio, sorry. I just wanted to jump at the chance to be the first to review it.

Review of The Church on Ruby Road by CptnOfTheYellowSub

2 April 2025

The Goblins are cute. I like their airship of wood and rope. How steampunk!

I was not sold on Ruby Sunday as a character from just this first episode. A character introduction is supposed to make me like her. It's like they were trying to take the best bits of Clara and Rose and mush them together hoping to strike magic again, but instead she just felt generic. I like her mum and granny though. They stole the show. I really felt empathy for Ruby's Mum in the kitchen scene. (I've forgot her name.) Not going to forget the name Cherry Sunday though. Please someone get this poor woman some tea.

Also yay, foster kid representation!

Which just hammers home how generic Ruby is, if I was primed to like her as a fellow foster kid, and yet, I feel nothing.

Review of Nikola Tesla’s Night of Terror by CptnOfTheYellowSub

2 April 2025

Started out good for the first 10 minutes. The train scene was the peak of the episode, immediately followed by too much standing around and talking exposition and not enough action. Bad fake American accents.

Review of The Caretaker by CptnOfTheYellowSub

2 April 2025

I didn't like how The Doctor was acting jealous and friend-zoned by Clara and Danny's relationship. It reminded me of how he treated Mickey Smith way back in 2005 and I think this version of The Doctor should be more mature than that by now.

I rewatched this episode only 2 weeks ago and yet I already can't remember the how or why of this monster of the week. Obviously the monster was just the excuse for The Doctor to bother Clara at her work, which is fine.

Review of The Husbands of River Song by CptnOfTheYellowSub

2 April 2025

Dare I say Alex Kingston had better chemistry with Peter Capaldi than she did with Matt Smith?

The ending was bittersweet. I hope that 24 year long night on Darillium was well spent. If you know what I mean. ; )

Review of The Eaters of Light by CptnOfTheYellowSub

2 April 2025

Unremarkable and the pacing was weird, probably because a classic Who writer was trying her hand at writing for a single episode story.

I think there should be more stories featuring The Pict culture though.

The Celts get so much exposure in the media but the Picts less so.

Review of Silence in the Library by CptnOfTheYellowSub

2 April 2025

I think this episode and part two might be the best Doctor Who ever written.

The Vashta Narada would have had me hiding behind the sofa if there weren't shadows back there. Doctor who will have you scared of the most mundane things.

Also, hello River Song! I love you so much!

Review of Amy’s Choice by CptnOfTheYellowSub

2 April 2025

Bring back The Dream Lord!

So maybe it is meta and Inception-esque but I understood the plot just fine.

Rory's stupid ponytail.

"Ah! You've swallowed a planet!" XD

Review of The Big Bang by CptnOfTheYellowSub

2 April 2025

Rory Williams, you absolute champion of all husbands to ever exist. Guarding your wife's body in the Pandorica is for 2000 years is the most romantic thing I've ever heard.

I think Steven Moffat was really cooking with fire on this one. He wrapped up the time paradox nice and tightly in such a clever way.

Little Amy was so cute.

River killing that fez was so funny.

I lost my virginity with the episode playing in the background. A fitting title for that time in my life. XD

Review of Hide by CptnOfTheYellowSub

2 April 2025

I've watched this twice, Albeit over a decade ago, but I remember nothing about it at all. I completely forgot it existed until I was scrolling through, rating stories. That should tell you all you need to know. I could at least tell you at least 1 plot detail from any other story from series 7.

Maybe I'll watch it again tonight and update this review,

Review of The Lazarus Experiment by CptnOfTheYellowSub

2 April 2025

I think I hate Mark Gatiss as an actor, but I can't pinpoint why. But he's particularly slimy in this. He should stick to writing.

Other than that, the premise is intriguing, and I like the church scene.

The mutant scorpion monster was terrifying, especially in that it used to be human. Peak body horror.
