Review of Doctor Who (The TV Movie) by AJwaderz

27 January 2025

This wasn't bad, but it certainly wasn't great.

Nonetheless, I like the story, and rewatching clips of the movie always reminds me of what could've been. There definitely should've been a 90s Doctor Who series with McGann as the Doctor.

Review of Scherzo by AJwaderz

27 January 2025

This is definitely my favourite Big Finish story. Even better than Zagreus (which is one of my favourite stories), and I really like how creative the antagonist of the story is. It's definitely something that couldn't be made into an episode or an animated form, to be honest, not even the preview comic of the story could do it justice! This is just... amazing.

Review of A Christmas Carol by AJwaderz

27 January 2025

Personally, I think that this is the best Christmas Special out of all the others, and one of my favourite adaptations of the Christmas Carol that I've seen.

Review of The Devil’s Chord by AJwaderz

26 January 2025

This review contains spoilers!

I was pretty disappointed with the episode. Especially since I was a Beatles fan, and the episode itself was marketed as a Beatles episode. But really it was just a sequel to "The Giggle" with John and Paul being the only Beatles that are really featured (I don't dislike the two, but I really wanted to see some George and Ringo action for the episode).

It definitely should've been something like "Vincent and the Doctor" or "The Shakespeare Code", where the historical figures featured actually take part in the story instead of pretty much doing nothing for 40 minutes then just appearing in the climax to play a chord.

Even though I was disappointed with the lack of Beatles in it, I wouldn't say that I hate it entirely. Most of the redeeming factors for me would go to Jinx Monsoon's performance as Maestro and the neat reference to Pyramids of Mars. So I probably would say that it's like "Rings of Akhaten", where the story isn't great, but there's that one bit that overshadows the entire episode and kept it from being a terrible one. That one scene (for me personally) being the Beatles dog song the Pyramids of Mars reference.

Review of Joy to the World by AJwaderz

26 January 2025

This review contains spoilers!

It's an alright/okay story, and that's also how I'd sum up ALL of Season 1.

I'm just gonna list two things about the story:

  1. I liked that whole sequence when the Doctor gets stuck in the hotel and bonds with Anita (the hotel manager), really wanna see her back as a companion.
  2. The ending felt... ehhh. That bit with Joy floating over the Doctor just looked really goofy, but not in the typical Doctor Who camp way, just modern MCU campy.

So... yeah. Just an ok story.

Review of Assimilation² by AJwaderz

26 January 2025

I really like Star Trek, and Doctor Who too (guess how.), so how couldn't I resist a crossover starring the main cast of two of the most well known Trek shows, plus with two of my favourite Doctors?

It's a decent crossover, my only nitpick is that the dialogue just tends to fill up the page! Like, am I reading a novel or a comic?

Maybe it could work if they did it in an audio/animated form (kinda like how they did with Shada or Real Time), probably from Big Finish, but I wouldn't expect them to be able to get Patrick Stewart, Leonard Nimoy, Matt Smith, and Tom Baker to appear in one story!

Overall, again, decent story, and it's definitely leagues better than the one they did recently (specifically Friendship is Universal. I don't wanna go on a rant about it, but pretty much the main crossover was an event from the crappy tycoon game and an amv).
