There is some stuff about Hex having feelings for Ace, and the cliffhanger is great. The second part is more interesting, if you’ve heard the audio ‘Protect and Survive’ this is similar. The Doctor having been separated from Ace and Hex, makes little appearance. With the companions having to survive, possibly forever, and the remains in the caves means its not a good outlook for them. So yeah I quite enjoyed this one, a little mystery limited cast and things looking bleak.. There is some good interaction between the Doctor and Hex at the end, Hex being angry. Previous Story: Shadow Planet I quite like how after complaining about the lack of character stuff in the last story we get a story that is entirely devoted to, well, character stuff. Ace and Hex get trapped on a planet that magically disappears out from under the Doctor's nose a la The Stolen Earth. It's a really great way to explore Ace and Hex's relationship with each other and their view of the Doctor, particularly Hex. Philip Olivier gives what I think is his best performance yet as Hex (granted I haven't done all of his stuff) and you can really feel the rage and frustration at the Doctor for taking his time rescuing them just to keep the sentient planet alive. It's a really interesting way to challenge the Doctor and quite an interesting story as a whole. I think the only issue is that as this was made after the fact for the Ace/Hex arc what should be a really important event for Ace and Hex can't really be explored and expanded in any other stories. It leads to Ace being a bit too uncaring about what she's just experienced and she forgives the Doctor a bit too quickly in my eyes. KnuppMello View profile Like Liked 1
