The Doctor and Clara meet a young Charlotte Bronte who is being menaced by a giant insect. It's a fun story, and I also enjoy sneaking in famous people before they're famous. Thworping through time and space, one adventure at a time! “UNEARTHLY THINGS: A GORGEOUSLY RENDERED VICTORIAN MYSTERY” Unearthly Things might be one of the most visually striking Doctor Who comic stories to date. The large, detailed panels and rich colourisation create an immersive, almost cinematic experience. The Victorian manor setting is beautifully realised, adding to the eerie and atmospheric tone of the story. CLASSIC WHO IN FAST FORWARD The plot itself feels like a streamlined Doctor Who episode—mind control, creepy aliens feeding off people, and a clever, if somewhat predictable, resolution. It has strong echoes of Rogue, with an alien infiltrating high society for sinister purposes. However, the villain is underdeveloped, and the guest characters don’t get much time to shine. The story moves at a brisk pace, almost feeling like a Classic Who episode condensed into comic format. A CLEVER CELEBRITY HISTORICAL TWIST One of the standout elements is the reveal regarding Charlotte at the end—a clever subversion of the typical celebrity historical. Instead of centring the story around a well-known historical figure from the start, the revelation comes as a last-minute twist. It’s a fun touch that adds a bit of extra depth to an otherwise straightforward narrative. STRONG DOCTOR, UNDERUTILISED CLARA Twelve is once again a highlight, written with all his sharp wit and commanding presence. Clara, on the other hand, doesn’t have much to do, though she’s not particularly distracting either. VERDICT: VISUALLY SPECTACULAR, IF SLIGHTLY RUSHED Unearthly Things is a gorgeous comic with an evocative setting and a fun twist on the celebrity historical. The story itself is fairly basic, with a forgettable villain and underdeveloped supporting characters, but the stunning artwork and strong portrayal of the Doctor make it an enjoyable read. 📝8/10 MrColdStream View profile Like Liked 0 15 August 2024 · 47 words Review by JayPea Solid story that I could definitely see being at home on screen, gave me Tooth and Claw or Nikola Tesla’s Night of Terror vibes in terms of being a fairly standard but still fun celebrity historical, just a shame it’s as short as it is JayPea View profile Like Liked 0 8 June 2024 · 21 words Review by Bongo50 1 This is an enjoyable, if short, story with great artwork (as always on this run of strips). The idea is cool. Bongo50 View profile Like Liked 1
