"The True Saviour of the Universe: A Universe in Chaos" The Ruler of the Universe set concludes with The True Saviour of the Universe, a gripping tale where the Unbound Doctor is suddenly arrested and put on trial for his past deeds. The Unbound Master seizes the moment to resurface, while Benny scrambles to save the Doctor amidst an android assassin's coup attempt. The story revisits the captivating dynamic between Benny and the Master, first explored in The Emporium at the End. Mark Gatiss shines once again as the Unbound Master, bringing an oddly magnetic energy to the role. Their uneasy alliance to uncover the assassin's employer leads to something that feels like an accidental second date—awkwardly charming and thoroughly entertaining. The Mother Superior from the previous set returns, finally confronting the Doctor over his failure to prevent the universe's collapse. What begins as a small-scale political thriller quickly evolves into a tense power struggle between the Master and the Doctor. David Warner is exceptional as the exasperated and calculating Doctor, particularly in his showdown with his nemesis. His ultimate revelation—that he has orchestrated the chaos all along—delivers a satisfying gut punch, capped by his decision to abandon his crumbling universe and let it fend for itself. The finale crescendos as the Master activates the Apocalypse Clock, unleashing a destructive force that seals the universe's doom—along with his own. There's poetic justice in the Master achieving ultimate power, only to rule over a dying reality consumed by chaos. The bittersweet ending, where the Doctor takes Benny home and follows her into our universe, is a poignant close to an epic saga. RANDOM OBSERVATIONS: Benny referencing Spider-Man is pure gold. She’s absolutely my kind of hero! Like Liked 1 Open in new window Statistics AVG. Rating41 members 4.13 / 5 The Time Scales AVG.
