DOCTOR: Still, I rather like the look of it here.

EVELYN: Oh, yes, terrific. It's cold, it's wet, it's foggy, and it definitely isn't the Galapagos Islands. We're probably in the middle of post apocalypse Bromsgrove in the ninety fifth century. If this is Earth at all.

DOCTOR: Professor Morgan, have you ever heard the expression “only the used key shines”?

MORGAN: What are you talking about?

DOCTOR: Wherever I go in the universe I invariably meet people like you - intelligent, knowledgeable people who, for reasons I can only guess at, reach a point in their lives when they arbitrarily decide to close their minds to anything new. You make it a point of personal pride to scoff, mock, and ridicule anybody who happens to inhabit a larger universe than the one in which you have chosen to imprison yourself - well that’s your business, you may believe I’m talking nonsense and I can’t help what you personally choose to believe, but I do know this - the only way to learn is to keep your mind open to the input of those who are more knowledgeable than yourself.

DOCTOR: Professor Morgan.

MORGAN: Yes, Doctor?

DOCTOR: It is a privilege and a pleasure to rely on your expertise during this crisis. Your presence is quite invaluable and we’re tremendously fortunate to have you here.

(silence. someone clears their throat)

DOCTOR: When I get back here with my equipment, I’d be most grateful for your advice on matters archaeological?

MORGAN: (timidly) Well, uh…we shall see.

DOCTOR: Good. Good. Well I should be back within the hour, and remember—no go fogou!

BRIGADIER: Understood, Doctor!

(the Doctor leaves)

MORGAN: (emphatically) What an infuriating man!

BRIGADIER: Oh, he can be, he can be.

MORGAN: Do I take it that martial law has now been declared?

BRIGADIER: Professor Morgan, there’s really no need to overreact. The Doctor has a brilliant mind. Many years of experience has taught me that it’s best to listen to him.

MORGAN: I’ve never been spoken to with that tone of voice!

BRIGADIER: I agree, the Doctor can occasionally be a little forthright.

MORGAN: He was arrogant!

BRIGADIER: Single minded, perhaps. Maybe even a little vague. But arrogance? No, I don’t think so. Arrogance is a kind of foolishness and, believe me, the Doctor is no fool.

DOCTOR: (entering the room) I am delighted to hear you say so, Brigadier.

(after arguing with the Doctor, Professor Morgan leaves the room)

EVELYN: …will you go downstairs and apologise to Professor Morgan?

DOCTOR: What? What on Earth for? The man’s an idiot!
