I was extremely anticipated for this series, because I think the trailer was the first time I heard of Big Finish (Watch the trailer here). However, the stories all reminded me of pre-existing stories, and I'll say which story it reminds me of when I get to each release. Obviously, this is reminiscent of the Robots of Death, as well as Planet of the Ood.

The Fourth Doctor and Leela have a great rapport, both on and off...audio? Anyway, this story shows their characters perfectly, as the Doctor fights for equality in 4's elegant passive-agressive fashion, and Leela has developed and is willing to protect machines if she thinks they're more than just machines. Shame there's no K-9, though.

The Sons of Kaldor were very generic monsters. They won the war and are crushing the opposition, very one dimensional. Tace's performance reminds me of the Pirate Captain in the few clips I've seen him in. So whilst the monsters are nostalgic of that era, they're not particularly distinct.

This story felt like it could've been a genuine TV story, and that's down to the studio-bound settings that Season 15 seems to have, especially on spaceships. It doesn't feel too unnatural, and considering the many references to the Sandminer from the Robots of Death, it wasn't difficult to imagine what the set would look like.

John Dorney and Toby Hadoke did an excellent job at recreating the robots' voices. They clearly have the starring role in this story, I am astounded by how alike they were to the TV series that I thought they got the original voice actor to come back. They were so warm and friendly that it really added an extra dimension to the Season 14 classic!

It's definitely one of the standouts of the Fourth Doctor Adventures, but there are minor flaws which could improve it.

This review contains spoilers!

This is part of a series of reviews of Doctor Who in chronological timeline order.

Previous Story: Underworld

Solid start to a series with the return of the robots from "The Robots of Death".

There's not much to say about this story, it's little bit generic but not annoyingly so, a good bit of fun really.

Next Story: The Crowmarsh Experiment
