It's always fun to have River pop up, but her needing to be apart from the Doctor causes some issues here because we essentially have twin plot lines that can't interact as much as they need to. The overall premise is fun, the Doctor and co arrive on Syra, a dying volcanic world summoned by River and manage to save the people while dodging Caleera (now the 'Sonomancer') and the Eleven. However, we still have no idea what the villains' overall plan is outside of destroying history. The best scenes were River and Helen's interactions as well as Liv fighting the Eleven. Doom Coalition 2 gave us an unexpected villain in Caleera, but the overall plot line of the saga is still unclear.
