Written by the author of Full Circle (4th Doctor Arc), this time Andrew Smith chose to distance himself a bit from his usual style of stories which, most of the time, feature a lot of scientific concepts whether fictitious or based on real theories, always being very detailed and even bringing a certain complexity. He decided to put his chips on a simpler plot that mixes a police thriller with Doctor Who. This story is yet another of the countless examples of how this "Adventures" line opts not to commit to delivering masterpieces or more in-depth and well-developed plots as we see in the Main Range, thus delivering filler, basic, and compact plots – On one hand, this approach brings a certain safety in terms of success, but on the other, when there is a failure, we often encounter several terrible failures (just ask The Evil One, cough! cough!). Landing inside a British store on Earth, the Doctor comes across an assassination attempt on the owner named Tony Raynolds. Later we learn that he is an alien from the Gesaurian race and his real name is Trenix, he remains disguised in human form to hide from a gang of alien gangsters who are looking for him, because of his testimony against the Sinestrans, thus considered a threat to the species. From there, the plot unfolds simply with investigations, conspiracies and also features the introduction of a new companion named Ann Kelso – A young policewoman who initially proved to be very calm and had a good dynamic with the 4th Doctor, nothing more than that. In summary, The Sinestran Kill starts Ann's range playing it safe, not taking risks and delivering a good time-passing plot of a very simple composition. This is part of a series of reviews of Doctor Who in chronological timeline order. Previous Story: The Invasion of Time Just a very bland story. It's got meaningless action, the characters are forgettable, even the Doctor feels flat and uninteresting. I suppose the villains are fairly interesting as space gangsters and I'm aware they will come up later, but otherwise this story feels dull. Not a very good start to Series 8 of the 4DAs, I hope it'll get better. Next Story: Planet of the Drashigs thedefinitearticle63 View profile Like Liked 0 Open in new window Statistics AVG.
