I loved the expansion on certain things from the show's past. The interactions between susan and the eighth doctor were fantastic. Alan Barnes concludes the first Susan’s War set by taking Susan back to 1963, where she bumps into mods, rockers, Daleks and her grandfather! She’s sent there to prevent the start of the Time War, by preventing the Doctor from hiding an important item on Earth. I like the palpable atmosphere and great stakes here. The mods and rockers of the 60s come to life especially well. The earthly feel is like Remembrance of the Daleks all over again, and there’s good action to keep things going, as well as small nods to 60s Doctor Who. The story as a whole is a bit campy, but in an enjoyable way. But the real thing here is Susan reuniting with the Doctor, though not with the one we expected. Paul McGann is right in his element and takes good command, without stepping on Susan’s toes. I also like how the Daleks are used here, as they are essentially controlling the human characters. Becky Wright is wonderful both as Susan’s mate Becky and as a Dalek-controlled slave. It's also refreshing not to have Veklin and Rasmus involved. Nick Briggs appears in another one of his forced little supporting characters, this time as the Doctor’s old, Russian assistant Fyodor. Like Liked 0
