A really strong and enjoyable historical romp. Gatiss manages to capture the atmosphere and horror of the era, but also make it fun and enjoyable to read. Every character is well developed and fleshed out, with plenty of mystery and intrigue for the plot. It really does feel like a story dropped right out of the early Troughton era.

A historical based on 1640s British politics... I might be interested in a shorter story, but the audiobook for this is more than 9 hours. I didn't dislike the story, but I do not have enough interest in this topic to be engaged for 9 hours.
