Thworping through time and space, one adventure at a time! “THE ROGUE PLANET: A TALE OF MISTAKEN IDENTITIES AND LOOMING CATASTROPHE” The Rogue Planet takes Rose and Jackie to yet another alternate Earth, but this time with a major twist—they finally meet an alternate version of Rose, known as Rosie. This world has its own surprises: Rosie runs a coffee shop, has a rocky relationship with her mother, and—most amusingly—has a baby, leading to some hilarious moments as Prime Rose is suddenly expected to care for a child she never knew existed. Meanwhile, Clive is a university professor studying an impending cosmic disaster, and Jackie is a well-known daytime TV personality. A FUNNY AND HEARTFELT CASE OF MISTAKEN IDENTITY The early portions of the story thrive on comedy, particularly with the mistaken identity plotlines. Rosie confides in Prime Jackie, unaware of who she truly is, while Prime Rose is constantly mistaken for Rosie. Jackie, meanwhile, finds herself dealing with the mixed reactions of people who either idolise or despise the TV version of her. These lighthearted elements provide a great contrast to the heavier drama that follows. STRONG CHARACTER DRAMA AT THE CORE Despite the comedic setup, the story ultimately delves into much deeper emotional territory. Rosie’s strained relationship with her mother is a key focus, mirroring elements of Prime Rose’s own struggles. The bond between Rosie and her steadfast friend Brooke is also a highlight, adding further emotional weight to the narrative. Camille Coduri delivers a standout performance as Jackie, especially as she grapples with the unsettling experience of seeing another version of her daughter—and realising how similar their fates are. A DARK TURN AS DISASTER APPROACHES The impending arrival of the rogue planet shifts the tone dramatically. Unlike previous dimensions visited in The Dimension Cannon, this world faces a dire, large-scale threat, forcing people underground in a desperate bid for survival. The stakes feel higher than ever, and the story cleverly weaves in references to Doctor Who’s Series 4 finale, with mentions of Donna and the Bad Wolf’s warnings about the stars going out. A POWERFUL CAST AND STANDOUT PERFORMANCES Billie Piper impresses as both versions of Rose, effortlessly distinguishing between the two while making each feel distinct and real. Indigo Griffiths shines as Brooke, adding warmth and intelligence to the story. Coduri’s more vulnerable portrayal of Jackie adds further depth, making the mother-daughter themes resonate strongly. A CLIFFHANGER THAT SETS UP MORE TO COME Unlike the more episodic nature of the first Dimension Cannon set, this story builds towards a dramatic and emotional climax—just as Rose and Jackie are about to leave this dimension, they are separated. The ending leaves Rose stranded in another world, providing a gripping lead-in to the third box set and ensuring that The Rogue Planet leaves a lasting impact. 📝VERDICT: 8/10 With its clever mistaken identity antics, strong character drama, and high-stakes disaster narrative, The Rogue Planet stands out as one of the most engaging entries in The Dimension Cannon. Balancing humour with heartfelt moments, it delivers a compelling mix of alternate-universe fun and genuine emotional depth—culminating in a thrilling cliffhanger that promises even greater challenges ahead.
