[Bone Palace]

RANI: And I know that you'll try everything to stop me, so I can't take that risk.

[Balcony]

(As it plummets towards the bowels of the Earth.)

DOCTOR: Rani! Argh!

(A door is drawn on the back of the balcony, and it opens.)

ANITA: Welcome to the Time Hotel. If you'd like to come with me, sir.

(See Joy to the World. She reaches out and pulls him into a corridor. The door vanishes.)

[Bone Palace]

(Watching on a console.)

RANI: Magic door? He had an actual magic door, the little...
MRS FLOOD: Too late.

(Midnight.)

[Ruby's home]

(Carla brings Ruby a mug of tea in bed.)

CARLA: Happy morning. One more day to go. It's May the 24th tomorrow.

[The Smith home]

(Belinda had been pushed out through the Threshold, remember, and now an alarm clock is waking her up. But she is alone in the marital bed.)

BELINDA: John?

[Time Hotel corridor]

DOCTOR: What? But... Anita!
ANITA: Hello, Doctor.
DOCTOR: Oh! Oh, but the world's... the world's... the world was destroyed.
ANITA: No! No, no. Look.

(She reactivates the door and opens it.)

ANITA: It's May the 23rd again. May the 24th never arrives. It resets. It gets to midnight, then it all clicks back to 7 a.m. on May the 23rd. It's done it hundreds of times.
DOCTOR: We're... we're in mid-air.
ANITA: I've got the house key. I can open a door anywhere.

(Closes the door.)

DOCTOR: This is crazy. Anita, it's so good to see you. Honey. Somebody else was pleased to see you, too!

(Anita's pregnancy is showing.)

DOCTOR: Oh! Aww!
ANITA: Ricardo.
DOCTOR: Ricardo.
ANITA: Head of HR.
DOCTOR: Head of HR.
ANITA: He worries too much, but he's lovely. And this is a baby boy due in three months. If we ever get there. Because this place is in trouble.

(Big Abandon Hotel alarm.)

ANITA: The hotel's in spasm because we're in 4202, and the world keeps ending in 2025. As far as I can see, that woman in the sky...
DOCTOR: The Rani.
ANITA: The Rani.
DOCTOR: The Rani.
ANITA: She's a Time Lord too, yeah?
DOCTOR: Yeah.
ANITA: I tried looking for your TARDIS, but I can't find it.
DOCTOR: Oh, Anita. You are.... you are talking Time Lords and TARDISes. When I left you, you were just...
ANITA: Ordinary.
DOCTOR: I didn't say that.
ANITA: This job at the Time Hotel taught me so much. And... on my days off, I'd go looking for you.

(Memory of opening various doors. 11th Doctor playing Live Chess - The Wedding of River Song. Then into 3rd Doctor story Day of the Daleks, episode three.)

DALEK: You are the Doctor. You are an enemy of the Daleks. Now you are in our power you will be exterminated!

(The Doctor dancing with Rogue.)

ANITA: I ran straight from that to Ricardo. So...all's well that ends well. But what about this Rani? Why's she doing all this? Why does Friday the 23rd keep resetting itself?
DOCTOR: She needs the same day to keep repeating itself so that it gets thinner and thinner and thinner until it snaps. Once it's broken, she can see underneath the skin of reality.
ANITA: What for?
DOCTOR: To find Omega. The most fearsome Time Lord in existence. Can you take me to her?
ANITA: That palace of hers is no-entry. She's surrounded by a Threshold. We can't get in.

[Bone Palace]

RANI: It says that portal was the Time Hotel, December 2024. You were supposed to follow him everywhere!
MRS FLOOD: All right, I had Christmas off. And so did you. We're the same person.
RANI: That strutting little pompadour. He'll try to stop us. We can't wait for another midnight.
SEEKER: 9-9-9-7-7-7-6-7-7...
SEEKER 2: 3-3-3-5-5-5-5...
MRS FLOOD: We don't have to. The Seekers have fixed the location. There - hidden beneath reality, deep in the Underverse. Omega, creator of the Time Lords. Our lord and master.
RANI: No one is lord and master of me. Now, how to bring him home...

[The Smith home]

ANITA: Here you are, Doctor. Poppy's room. Belinda woke up without you. But every time the world resets, it gets a bit... bumpy. Things fall through the gaps, but everyone sort of compensates, like they make the reality work.
DOCTOR: It's a world built on a wish, willed into existence by the Rani's pet human, Conrad Clark.
CONRAD [TV]: Oh, the Doctor loves playing jokes and games...
DOCTOR: And I have a daughter.
ANITA: But she isn't real.
DOCTOR: How dare you! I have been in the halls of the Goblin King. I have stood in the palaces of the Daleks. I have entered the caves of Satan himself. But what has happened here, in his tiny little bedroom in the middle of suburbia, is bigger than anything.

(Belinda calls up from the foot of the stairs.)

BELINDA: Hello? Is someone there?
DOCTOR: It's me.
BELINDA: Oh! You're home. I thought you were... I don't know what I thought.
DOCTOR: I'm coming down.
BELINDA: I'll make us some tea.

(In the kitchen, to Poppy.)

BELINDA: Nice surprise. Daddy's here!

(At the foot of the stairs, the Doctor removes his jacket and his outfit transforms into a sleeveless top, let's call it a kilt, with baggy leggings.)

[Time Hotel corridor]

BELINDA: I'm... I'm Belinda Chandra. And you're Poppy. She's real! Oh, my God, you're the Doctor. (to Poppy) But you're real. Here she is. We've had a baby.
DOCTOR: In a single day.
BELINDA: And who's that?
DOCTOR: This... this is Anita.
ANITA: I just work in hospitality, really.
BELINDA: Is she safe, Doctor? Please tell me our daughter is safe.
DOCTOR: She is in danger. But we will fight, Bel, to save her. Fight like never before.

[UNIT office]

(A door appears in a wall.)

KATE: What on Earth? What? Don't look. All of you keep working. I said keep working!

(Enter the Doctor.)

KATE: Mister Smith, what on Earth do you think you're wearing?
DOCTOR: The future. Just a second, guys. Because these are doorways into real time, allowing you to see the truth.

(Anita opens several doors.)

KATE: Mister Smith, whatever this is, I demand that you stop.
DOCTOR: Mister Smith is gone. I am the Doctor.

(Mugs fall through desks.)

IBRAHIM: I'm wearing a suit.
KATE: I'm wearing tweed!
SUSAN TRIAD: I'm wearing nylon.

(Anita opens another door and a packing crate explodes.)

VLINX: Danger! Subatomic disruption. Reality levels now converging.
KATE: Doctor, what's happening?
DOCTOR: Welcome back, Kate.

(The tower shakes.)

KATE: What is it now?
DOCTOR: I don't know. I've never done this before. Hold on tight. I think reality is reasserting itself.

(A new person appears. Rose Noble.)

DOCTOR: Rosie. Oh! Rosie. Conrad. Conrad couldn't imagine you for even a second, so you didn't exist. But now you are back, thanks to Anita.
ANITA: I'm in the hotel industry.
DOCTOR: Neet! Neet, I need you to stay there, keep that door open, keep the real time flowing, honey.
KATE: Why is Conrad Clark on television?
SUSAN TRIAD: Never mind him. What the bloody hell is that thing?
DOCTOR: Bone Beast. Creatures from the Underverse. Because when two realities collide, it creates friction. And the friction creates these excitated atoms. That summons the Bone Beasts. They're like antibodies. They sort of graze, feeding off the atoms, cleaning up the world. Now... one more thing.
BELINDA: Hello, everyone. I'm Belinda.
DOCTOR: And this is our daughter, Poppy.
KATE: Well, now you're going too far.

[Tent town]

SHIRLEY: Morning, Winnie, love! Another day in paradise.
WINNIE: Happy May the 23rd.
SHIRLEY: Same to you. Only one day to go.

[UNIT Operations]

(A working laptop has appeared.)

KATE: We had all UNIT personnel biochipped, so we know where they are. We only have a ten-mile radius, but maybe we can use the chip to signal them and wake them up.

[Tent town]

(A little red light pulsing in her throat.)

SHIRLEY: What the hell is going on?

(On Calico Avenue, more broken crockery is going into the SLIP bins when Mel wakes up.)

[Ruby's home]

CARLA: You can't say things like that! You've got to behave, Ruby. You can't go slandering Conrad.

[Tent town]

SHIRLEY: Winnie, I'm sorry about this, but I promise, things will change.
WINNIE: I don't understand. It's just a normal day. Where are you going?
SHIRLEY: Me? I want to save the world.

(And presses a boost button on her wheelchair, leaving scorch marks on the tarmac. Very Back to the Future...)

WINNIE: Whoa!

(Meanwhile, Mel has got out her orange motor scooter and is heading in to work.)

[Ruby's home]

(Ruby is heading out too.)

CHERRY: You're running up and down like a mad sumaddy. What you really doing?
RUBY: What I do best. Bye!

[Conrad's room]

CONRAD: Okay, let's repeat chapter one. Is it working?
RANI: We need to move a little faster. Sweet little Desiderium. If only you were older, you could imagine such complicated things. Instead, I've got you.
CONRAD: I'll do anything for you, mistress.
RANI: Don't say that. You really are ridiculously handsome. I could tilt you on your side and serve olives in those dimples, mmm? But still... The Doctor. He's out there somewhere, and you hold all of the Wish in your head, Conrad. Can you see him? Can you find him, Connie? For me?

[UNIT Operations]

(Everyone and everything back to how it should be.)

TANNOY: Gold alert. Gold alert.
DOCTOR: Do you see those plans up there? Crossmatch them into null-space. I need you to build me that in record time. Can you do that?
SUSAN TRIAD: Consider it done, sir.
RUBY: Doctor!
DOCTOR: Oh! Oh, you're blonder!
RUBY: Yes!
DOCTOR: How is Carla?
RUBY: She's fine.
DOCTOR: How is...?

(Shirley enters.)

DOCTOR: Oh!
SHIRLEY: Oh, no. No, no, no, do not go hugging me, you. I feel like I've haven't washed for days. Oh!

(The Doctor hugs her anyway.)

RUBY: A daughter? Do you mean an actual daughter? That's amazing.
BELINDA: Yeah, surprised me too.

(And Mel rides in.)

MEL: I have been... a housewife.
DOCTOR: Ah! Come here!
KATE: Gold protocols. Doctor on the bridge. Update all of us, please.
DOCTOR: Basically, we are facing the Unholy Trinity. God of Wishes, crazy Time Lady, Conrad Clark. Mel, I am sorry. It is the Rani.
MEL: She's still alive?
DOCTOR: Mmm.
MEL: I fought the Rani when I travelled with the Doctor all those years ago.
DOCTOR: This should be the best day of my life. Another Time Lord. It means I'm not alone. Except...

(See The Timeless Children, if you can bare to.)

MEL: She's ruthless. Worse than ruthless. She's indifferent to any pain or morality or humanity. The whole universe is just an experiment to her.
DOCTOR: Now, the Trinity have wished this world into existence. Conrad's world. But he couldn't imagine everything, so he used us. We half remembered ourselves, living Conrad's version of an ordinary life, all crushed and stifled and appalling.
RUBY: But if things are half remembered, then... We met a girl named Poppy, exactly like her, Doctor.
BELINDA: What does that mean?
DOCTOR: It just makes it even more amazing, Bel. Little scraps of memories, yours and mine, have come to life in a child of our own.
VLINX: Caution. Teleport incoming.
RANI: You really are an idiot, Doctor. You had a whole world to hide in, and you ran half a mile away.
DOCTOR: The Rani.
RANI: And Melanie.
MEL: We meet again.
RANI: I thought you'd be dead. I thought there's no way that painted doll of a princess could ever survive.
MEL: I never thought about you once.
RANI: Oh, you thought of me every night.
DOCTOR: Rani, the Time Lords were slaughtered. How did you survive?
RANI: I saw it coming - the genetic explosion. I had a split second. Flipped my DNA, made a biological sidestep. Survived the carnage.
DOCTOR: But how did you get to Earth? I have the only TARDIS in existence. Ha, ha. Time Ring. Poor baby.
RANI: It led me to you. Although that wasn't difficult. Find a stupid blonde Earth girl, and there you are.
RUBY: Excuse me?
RANI: Oh, it was so tedious, putting up with you and your 57 mothers.
RUBY: I've never met you in my life.

(The Rani snaps her fingers.)

MRS FLOOD: All right, Rubes, darling?
RUBY: Mrs Flood!
BELINDA: That's my neighbour.
RUBY: That's my neighbour.
DOCTOR: They're both the Rani.
BOTH RANIS: We bi-generated.
MRS FLOOD: Obviously, I bow to the mistress, but it took a lot of planning, spying on those two. "Cor blimey, look at that police box." And pinning it all down to May the 24th. But I was brilliant.

(The Rani snaps her fingers again and Mrs Flood vanishes.)

DOCTOR: The plan is Omega?
RANI: Splitting open the world to reach him in the Underverse beneath.
DOCTOR: Huh. Every civilisation has a thousand legends about the world hidden below. The Upside Down, or Narnia, or Hell. That is the Underverse.
RANI: To which Omega was banished.
KATE: My father fought Omega back in the 1970s. Said he was a Titan. Called him the Mad God.

(The Three Doctors, again.)

DOCTOR: Omega was the first. The one who discovered time travel. Some call him the Original Sin of the Time Lords. Cast out from Gallifrey, legend says that they bound him and banished him because he is insane!
RANI: The point is, he's alive. Exile to the Underverse means he survived.
DOCTOR: We can't know that.
RANI: Alive or dead, he will work as a gene bank. With his body, I can resurrect the Time Lords and construct a new Gallifrey.
DOCTOR: Oh. Your Gallifrey.
RANI: Well, the Gallifrey of old never did appreciate me. But this one, this will be a power in the sky.
MEL: But if you need the DNA of a Time Lord, then what about you? The two of you?
RANI: I think she's asking us to mate.
DOCTOR: You don't understand. That's why I keep telling you that Poppy is so special. Because she is impossible. The child of a Time Lord.
BELINDA: And?
DOCTOR: There's no such thing.
RANI: We're sterile.
DOCTOR: We are infertile.
RANI: The species is barren. We're a biological dead end. There can never be another Gallifreyan child.
DOCTOR: Sometimes I think that's what bi-generation is. A lifeforce trying anything it can to survive.
MEL: What happened?
RANI: That genetic explosion. It... it didn't kill us, but it roasted us and sterilised us. Extinction is taking a bit longer, that's all.
BELINDA: So Poppy came out of the Wish? Like... an accident?
DOCTOR: The most beautiful accident, because that is what life does. It just happens. A mad woman and a maniac came up with a ridiculous plan and out of it... came her.
ROSE: Doesn't Poppy solve everything? I mean, she's Time Lord DNA.
RANI: Well, yes. Except... the mother.
BELINDA: What about me?
RANI: Human.
BELINDA: And?
RANI: The child is contaminated. Oh, I think I've lost the crowd.
BELINDA: You are disgusting.
RANI: And you are cattle. We're talking about Time Lords here. The highest universal race, the greatest and purest classification of life. He walks around like he's one of you, but you're like insects to him. Playthings. A fetish. And deep down in your hearts, you know it. Now shut up, step aside, let me build a new Gallifrey nd I will leave your world untouched.
DOCTOR: Then... then the Wish ends.
BELINDA: What would happen to Poppy?
DOCTOR: She would cease to exist.
BELINDA: No.
DOCTOR: She would vanish like a whisper.
RANI: Doctor, I'm genuinely sorry, but she's not real. She's made of hopes and dreams and wishes.
DOCTOR: That is every child.
BELINDA: But if we don't end the Wish, this stays as Conrad's world.
SHIRLEY: We can't do that. That's not happening. Absolutely not.
BELINDA: Don't you tell me what we can and can't do. I don't care what UNIT thinks, or Time Lords or gods or anyone. I remember her being my daughter and if I remember it, then it's true. Not one of you is taking her out of existence. Have you got that? Not one of you!
RANI: Quite the dilemma. I just came to make an offer. Stand with me, Doctor, and set a new race of Time Lords up on high, or stay down here with the beasts below.
DOCTOR: I swear I will stop you.

(But the Rani's sonic shorts out his.)

RANI: The battle is on, Doctor. Good luck.

(And teleports away.)

[Bone Palace]

RANI: How close are we?
MRS FLOOD: Target fixed. The chronon beam will pull Omega out of the Underverse.

(The beam is flowing from the clockface to the Seal.)

RANI: Trouble is, the UNIT tower is a tinderbox of weapons. But if we fake an excitation of its atoms... the Bone Beasts will see the tower as an enemy.

[UNIT Operations]

DOCTOR: She is provoking the Bone Beasts. We are at war.
TANNOY: Hostiles detected. Sector 7, Grid 5. Sector 14, Grid 1. Sector 19, Grid 5. Sector 27, Grid 4. All weapons coordinated and primed.
KATE: Attention all staff. This tower is going into battle mode. Combat teams, attend your stations, now!
DOCTOR: Mel. Mel. Melanie! Power up the Indigo device. Rose, I want you to bio-sync Ruby for the flight.
ROSE: I'm on it.
RUBY: Did you say flight?
DOCTOR: Yes, I did. Anita, Anita! Keep that door open. I need you to keep real time flowing. (to Belinda and Poppy) Hey, hi. Trust me. We're going down to Floor Minus 10. Yeah? Come on.
KATE: Activating weapons platform.

(The helipad drops.)

[Floor Minus 10]

(Susan Triad has built the Doctor's device, a large cube.)

TANNOY: Warning - null-space activation. Warning - null-space activation.
DOCTOR: Is it ready?
SUSAN TRIAD: If I have to hold it together with my bare hands. Yes, it's ready.
BELINDA: What is that thing?
DOCTOR: I call it a Zero Room. We're half a mile underground. We're shielded from all signals. And the room inside that thing, it is beyond time and space. It will exist outside of reality. We put Poppy in, and if the Wish comes to an end, we open it up.
BELINDA: And Poppy will still exist?
DOCTOR: I hope.
BELINDA: You hope?
SUSAN TRIAD: I will do everything I can to make it work. I owe the Doctor my life, Miss Chandra. I won't let him down.
BELINDA: Do you mean Poppy goes in there alone? Because I'm telling you, she does not. I'm going with her. And I can't help you in the fight. My battle is in there, saving my daughter.
DOCTOR: Bel, if the Rani wins and we are destroyed, you will be locked in there for all eternity. You wouldn't starve or age or... or suffocate. You would just... you would just be. Forever.
BELINDA: With Poppy.
DOCTOR: With Poppy.
BELINDA: Let's do it.

[UNIT Operations]

(The Bone Beasts are attacking with sonic or otherwise invisible weapons.)

KATE: Open the parallax cannons! Fire!
TANNOY: Maximum parallax.

[Floor Minus 10]

TANNOY: Caution! Zero coordinates mapped on to real-time dynamics. Repeat - zero coordinates mapped onto real-time dynamics. Warning. Floor Minus 10 is now an instability zone.
BELINDA: What if it doesn't work?
DOCTOR: I think we won't remember. She will fade away like gossamer. It'll be like Poppy never existed.
BELINDA: It'll never happen.
DOCTOR: Never. Because it makes sense now. I was meant to meet you, Belinda. It was all for this. So that Poppy can live. Close it.

(Z R 01 is sealed.)

[UNIT Operations]

KATE: Double galvanic beams.
IBRAHIM: Fire!
TANNOY: Maintain position.
IBRAHIM: They're getting closer!
SHIRLEY: More power!
TANNOY: Defend the east flank.

(A bit of ceiling falls down. Ruby has the Indigo backpack on. Then she gets jabbed with a syringe.)

RUBY: Ow! What's that for?
ROSE: It's like a bio sync-up thing. It makes the software respond to you.

(A computer bank explodes.)

MEL: The Indigo device is a transmat, like a matter transporter. You'll be fine as long as you don't press the yellow button.

(Ruby transmats a few yards.)

RUBY: Oh, my God, it really works.
DOCTOR: Press the blue button. That'll get you to Conrad so you can stop him and bring his Wish to an end.
RUBY: Well, how do I do that? What do I do? Can I punch him?
KATE: Yes, you can.

(Another explosion.)

MAN: Oh!
WOMAN: Medic! Medic!
KATE: Parallax cannons, East 21.6. Fire!
RUBY: But hang on. What about Anita and her magic door?
ANITA: I'm just a hotelier, really.
RUBY: Well, can't you get us into the Palace?
DOCTOR: Anita needs to keep that door open, or you lot will slip back into the Wish. Now, the Bone Palace is protected. It has a Threshold. If you tried to transmat in there, you would be pureed, baby girl.
RUBY: Nice.
DOCTOR: I need to get in there, lower the Threshold so I can stop the Rani.
MEL: But how can you do that?

(Holds up his sonic.)

DOCTOR: Oh, I... I tricked her. Copied her coding.

(He summons the Rani's air scooter.)

IBRAHIM: Bone Beast 3 out of range!
KATE: We're turning west 44.5. All personnel hold on tight.

(Kate turns the ship's wheel that is on the bridge and the top of the tower rotates.)

TANNOY: ?? protocol. ?? protocol.
KATE: Galvanic beams at maximum!
IBRAHIM: Fire!

(The Doctor runs to the helipad now weapons platform where the scooter lands.)

DOCTOR: Shirley! Monitor the Threshold on Frequency 5. As soon as it falls, Ruby, activate the Indigo device.
KATE: Fly well, Doctor.
DOCTOR: If we die here today... I love you lot.
SHIRLEY: Just shut up and go!

(The blast doors close and he flies off under Tower bridge, through a bony rib cage.)

[Floor Minus 10]

SUSAN TRIAD: Protect the retrofold cables. Keep the red-links connected!

[UNIT Operations]

(The Doctor smashes through a window of the Bone Palace and flies into the Chronon beam.)

SHIRLEY: Threshold down.
KATE: Come on.

(Ruby presses the blue button.)

[Conrad's room]

CONRAD: Like I wasn't ready for you.

(Pointing a gun at Ruby.)

[Bone Palace]

DOCTOR: Ouch.
MRS FLOOD: You were too late, Doctor. The portal has locked onto its target.
RANI: And you're really very obvious. I know you haven't arrived with a weapon, only a speech. Some dazzling words, maybe a pun, and then some lachrymose little tug-the-heartstrings, mimosa-scented platitudes about the power of love.
MRS FLOOD: But aren't you tempted, Doctor, to start again? The Time Lords reborn.
DOCTOR: The Time Lords of Omega were tyrants and murderers.
RANI: Then rebuild them with us. You're not amongst the humans now, so stop pretending. You're a lord of time and space. Now act like it.
MRS FLOOD: Don't you want to see him? The Almighty One? Don't you?
DOCTOR: Yes.
MRS FLOOD: Omega locked and approaching. Here he comes. Back to reality.
DOCTOR: What is that? What is that? Is that a doorway or...?

(The Seal glows and transforms.)

RANI: The tomb of Omega. Or his prison. His asylum? I suggest we find out.

[Conrad's room]

RUBY: I want to say thank you.
CONRAD: Ha. Sure.
RUBY: I mean it. Because Conrad's World... it could have been so much worse. A fantasy world, I'd expect guns and whisky and girls. But yours is nice. It's actually nice.
CONRAD: I did what he said.
RUBY: Who?
CONRAD: The Doctor. He told me, people just want to be safe and fed and warm. So that's what I did.
RUBY: You tried to give everyone a family. All that time we spent together, you never mentioned your dad. You never, ever mentioned your father. And I... I wonder why.
CONRAD: You don't know me. At all.

[Bone Palace]

(The Rani has sonicked the Seal. A sound can be heard.)

RANI: A heartbeat.
MRS FLOOD: A double heartbeat.
RANI: Omega lives.
SEEKERS: Omega. Omega. Omega.
RANI: I summon you, Creator of the Time Lords. Come back to this world.
SEEKERS: Omega. Omega. Omega.

[Conrad's room]

RUBY: But some of it was true. You and me. Because I was there, Conrad, in the dark, when I made you smile. That was real.

[Bone Palace]

(The Seal begins to open.)

RANI: Drone Guards, stand by.

(A giant five-clawed hand emerges.)

RANI: What?

(A massive semi-skeletal, semi-mummified dinosaur-ish but definitely non-humanoid beast partially crawls out.)

DOCTOR: Rani, get back.
RANI: What is it?
DOCTOR: The Underverse is a world of legends, so Omega has become his own legend. He is the Mad God, the Titan. The Original Sin.
OMEGA: I will become the God of Time, with Time Lords to feast upon.
RANI: Well, I think you'll find...

(She raises her sonic, but gets scooped up and dropped into Omega's maw, screaming. The Time Ring rolls across the floor.)

OMEGA: So sweet.

(Omega's roar reverberates through the Palace, making the Drones' heads explode.)

DOCTOR: Omega. Omega! Remember me?
OMEGA: My little Doctor.
DOCTOR: It's been a very long time. May I introduce to you the Rani?
OMEGA: This little thing?

(Mrs Flood grabs the Time Ring and puts it on.)

MRS FLOOD: So much for the two Ranis. It's a goodnight from me.

(And disappears while the whole of the British television audience groans and laughs.)

DOCTOR: Oh, thanks. Omega. The very first Time Lord. May I ask... what is your intent?
OMEGA: I am free to feast upon this world. None shall stop me.
DOCTOR: And there's nothing I can do. I stand here without hope, or help. Just thinking. If only... ha. If only I had a weapon hiding in plain sight. Wait a minute...

(And takes the Vindicator off the clockface.)

DOCTOR: The power of one billion supernovas!

[Conrad's room]

(Ruby transmats behind Conrad. He turns to see her holding the baby.)

RUBY: Conrad.

(She kisses Desiderium.)

RUBY: I wish you to be happy.

(And blows. Conrad relaxes and disappears.)

[Bone Palace]

(The Vindicator is still pumping energy into Omega.)

DOCTOR: Argh! Back... into... Hell! Argh!

(Finally Omega is pushed back through the opening, and the Seal closes.)

[Conrad's room]

(Kiss.)

RUBY: End the Wish.

(Blows. The Bone Palace fades away.)

[UNIT Operations]

KATE: Hold your fire. Hold your fire.

[Bone Palace]

RANI [memory]: Don't you ever wonder, deep down in both your hearts, where your TARDIS is?

(The Doctor puts down the Vindicator and runs.)

[TARDIS]

RUBY: We're in the TARDIS.

(The Doctor is running from the vanishing Bone Palace when the TARDIS door appears. He pulls his key from his waistcoat pocket and laughs.)

DOCTOR: Back to Floor Minus 10.
RUBY: Shh, it's okay. Can't we wish for Poppy?
DOCTOR: But then she might vanish. When I do this... because I must...

(Kisses the baby then blows.)

DOCTOR: No more wishes.

(The TARDIS lands and the baby cries.)

[Floor Minus 10]

(The Doctor comes out of the TARDIS.)

SUSAN TRIAD: I don't know.

(The Doctor unlocks the Zero Room, and the door swings open to reveal Belinda and Poppy, safe and sound. Much rejoicing.)

DOCTOR: Oh! Poppy! Oh! Poppy! Oh, my.

[Ruby's home]

The Doctor is cradling little Desiderium.)
DOCTOR: Well, we know he's human by birth. We just don't know where in time and space he's from. Do we? We don't know.

(Hands him to Carla.)

RUBY: He's a foundling. Just like me.
DOCTOR: Like me. So I thought, who is the best mother in the world?
CHERRY: Me. But I am too busy playing poker.
DOCTOR: Cherry.
CARLA: But we can't just... I mean, there's paperwork and all sorts.
DOCTOR: Paperwork is sorted.
CHERRY: Joseph. Joseph was my late husband's name.
RUBY: Oh, Joe Sunday.
DOCTOR: Joe Sunday.
RUBY: Little Joe Sunday.
CARLA: And what about you, Doctor? Ruby says you're a father now.
DOCTOR: Uh-huh.
CHERRY: I pity the child.
CARLA: But what will you do? You can't run around like a nutcase any more. Things will have to change.
DOCTOR: Mmm. I know.

[TARDIS]

(Poppy is in a cot.)

DOCTOR: Poppy! Where's my girl?
BELINDA: She's too big for this already, aren't you, Poppy? She'll climb out. This place is a deathtrap.
DOCTOR: I know, I know, I know. We need rails. Safety rails going all the way around. It's going to look amazing.
RUBY: So what are you guys going to do, the three of you? Like, settle down?
BELINDA: Oh, absolutely not. My daughter's not going to have a boring life. We can go anywhere and everywhere and show her everything. Are you too hot in this, Pops? It's always cold in here, but for the first time, it's too warm.
DOCTOR: Mmm. That's the TARDIS. Accommodating.
RUBY: There's one thing I still don't understand. How come my memory was different? Why did I remember things that no one else could?
DOCTOR: I have no idea. But we have seen many a strange thing together, Ruby-roo.
RUBY: Hey, it's a skill.
DOCTOR: It's a skill.
BELINDA: We'll need all sorts of things. Like a room for toys.
DOCTOR: I can do that. I can do that. I can turn the TARDIS into anything. We can put a room off there, or anywhere.
BELINDA: I wonder where we take her first. She could see Neptune. No, she could see Kerala.
DOCTOR: Kerala. I have never been. All of the universe, and I've never been.
BELINDA: We can go and see my Uncle Roo. Oh, he's wonderful.
DOCTOR: In the year 60,000, there is a planet called New New Delhi. Oh, we are going there.
BELINDA: We're going there. Isn't it funny? I used to say, "Take me home."

(Poppy's gilet has been getting smaller and smaller as the Doctor and Belinda have passed it between themselves, until it is little more than a handkerchief.)

DOCTOR: Mmm hmm. And now you want to stay? I knew it! I knew, I knew I would get you in the end.
BELINDA: I want to see planets and galaxies.
DOCTOR: Oh...
BELINDA: I want to see the Big Bang.

(And the piece of fabric disappears completely.)

DOCTOR: Mate, we will have the best of times.

(The cot is empty.)

RUBY: Where's she gone?
DOCTOR: Who?
RUBY: Poppy.
BELINDA: Who's Poppy?
RUBY: But...

(Task alert chimes.)

DOCTOR: One more thing I've got to sort out. Oh! I see.

(Moves the TARDIS.)

DOCTOR: Because the Robots - the Robots from MissBelindaChandraOne...
BELINDA: Oh! Ruby, I had a whole planet named after me. It was so mad.
DOCTOR: They picked up the star register in the future after the Rani destroyed the Earth. Now the planet is not destroyed, so I've got to chuck this thing back out into space, then the Robots can find it, yeah? History is intact. Thank you very much.
RUBY: Doctor, where's she gone?
DOCTOR: Who?
RUBY: Poppy.
DOCTOR: Who's Poppy?
RUBY: Your daughter.
DOCTOR: What do you mean?
RUBY: You have a daughter. The two of you, together.
BELINDA: I think I'd remember that.
DOCTOR: Imagine.
RUBY: What do you think the cot is...?

(But that has now gone too.)

RUBY: No. No, no, no, no, no, no, no... There was, there was... There was a little girl named Poppy.
DOCTOR: A long time ago. That space baby lives far away, in a different world. Ruby, I think your memory got a little bit scrambled. Belinda, where shall we go?
BELINDA: There's a great big universe waiting for us. Take me to the stars.
DOCTOR: Good, good. Good, good, good. Let me just make sure everything is back in place.

[UNIT Operations]

SHIRLEY: Oh, look out. Here he is. Trouble.
KATE: And you're just in time, Doctor. Here it comes.

(Big Ben strikes midnight in the Elizabeth Tower. Celebrations.)

SHIRLEY: At last!
IBRAHIM: It's now officially May the 24th. The day we thought would never arrive.
DOCTOR: Congratulations. Welcome.
IBRAHIM: Happy May the 24th.
SUSAN TRIAD: Happy 24th!
ANITA: And I'd better go. That signals the end of my time here, I think.
DOCTOR: Anita, you are so amazing. I... Thank you.
KATE: You're very welcome to stay, Anita. You could work for UNIT. You'd be very useful with a key like that.
ANITA: Oh, I'm so sorry, but this key is far too powerful for the 21st century. And they only gave me one day. I'm not allowed to stay. There's far too much to do. Oh, they say hello, by the way.
DOCTOR: Who does?
ANITA: The Boss.

(The Time Hotel door closes.)

DOCTOR: Okay. Parking that.
RUBY: So the entire world is back to normal?
DOCTOR: Yes, yes! And we are off to Neptune. See you later. Come on, Rubes, we'll pop you home.
RUBY: No, just... wait. It's important. Is the world exactly as it was?
SUSAN TRIAD: Well, funny you should say. There are tiny little changes. Like Conrad's World was sort of glitchy, now we've got the same. We're getting reports that the border between Norway and Sweden has moved seven miles east.
SHIRLEY: And the colour teal is a bit more blue.
KATE: And Ernest Borgnine is still alive.

(Born 1917. Impressive.)

RUBY: So there are mistakes.
DOCTOR: It was bound to happen. Ruby, reality shifted on a massive scale.
BELINDA: Ernest Borgnine got lucky.
KATE: And there's one more big change. Mel found this.
MEL [on screen]: Reporting from Empress House, and... I found him. He posted this online.
CONRAD [on screen]: Stop filming me.
MEL [on screen]: Chief cook and bottle-washer. Nice little place in Lewisham. I looked inside. It's harmless. And no one remembers him from the old days. That Conrad's been forgotten, even by himself. I think Ruby did a very kind thing.
RUBY: The gods are full of tricks. One wish survived, and it turns out to be him, not Poppy.
DOCTOR: Ruby. Ruby, I told you, there is no one called Poppy.
RUBY: Kate, do you remember a child called Poppy in this room?
KATE: No.
RUBY: Do you?
IBRAHIM: No.
RUBY: The Vlinx, do you have any record of a child called Poppy in this building on May the 23rd?
VLINX: Negative.
RUBY: Shirley, do you remember her?
SHIRLEY: No.
RUBY: Susan, you saved Poppy's life. You built a Zero Room to save her. Surely you've got to remember that.
SUSAN TRIAD: There is a Zero Room on Floor Minus 10. I built it like an escape pod, for all of us.
RUBY: Poppy went in there. We all watched her come out. We saw it. We did.
DOCTOR: Ruby, I'm sorry, but you are remembering this wrong.
BELINDA: And not to be rude, but it's kind of offensive to say I've got a daughter I don't remember.
KATE: Poppy's your daughter?
BELINDA: Exactly. She doesn't... exist.
RUBY: So what we're saying is, my memory is one of the glitches.
DOCTOR: It must be.
RUBY: I'm glitching.
DOCTOR: Yes.
RUBY: Poppy's a glitch.
DOCTOR: Yes.
RUBY: Except the glitches were real before they changed. Because I was right in the Wish World, wasn't I? And I'm right now. Conrad wasn't some nice, happy chef, was he, Kate?
KATE: No.
RUBY: And that's not teal, is it?
SHIRLEY: No, it's too blue.
RUBY: Don't you see? There's another world, a slightly different reality. And it might just be a tiny little change, but she's a child. She's a little girl and she's so beautiful. Her name is Poppy, and she's lost somewhere out there.
DOCTOR: Ruby, I'm not wrong on this.
RUBY: Doctor, one life has disappeared. And you know this can happen. You know this better than anyone because it's happened before. It happened to me. Remember?
DOCTOR [memory]: I'm looking for your daughter, Ruby.
CARLA [memory]: Who's Ruby?

(The Church On Ruby Road.)

RUBY: That Christmas, I was that life. I ceased to exist, and you did everything you could to bring me back because you couldn't bear a world with one person missing.
BELINDA: You did that for me too. I was trapped in that time explosion. There was a baby. You were there. You said you went through my entire life.

(The Robot Revolution.)

DOCTOR: That car when you were seven.
BELINDA: That was you?
DOCTOR: Yeah, but...
BELINDA: You saved me.
SUSAN TRIAD: I'm barely a year old. Born out of the TARDIS. Remember? You set me free, and saved my life.

(Empire of Death.)

KATE: You save all of us. Sometimes I think we're all your children.
DOCTOR: We're missing one person.
RUBY: Your daughter.
DOCTOR: I have a daughter.
RUBY: Yes.
BELINDA: If Poppy's real, that means she was mine.
DOCTOR: I will find her. Bel, I swear on my life, I will do anything to find her.
IBRAHIM: Doctor, we can help.
KATE: We've got the Time Window. We've got temporal dams. We've got retrodynamic artron cascades.
DOCTOR: Time has shifted by one degree, by the tiniest little degree. There is no technology in the universe that can change that. There is only one thing that is strong enough... to change reality one tiny degree.
KATE: Which is what?
DOCTOR: The last of the Time Lords.
(Because Time Lady Mrs Flood / Rani doesn't count now she's used the Time Ring and is out of sight, out of mind.
He goes into the TARDIS and it dematerialises.)

[TARDIS]

DOCTOR: Ah! Poppy. Her name is Poppy. Okay, her name is Poppy. Oh man, I like this face.

(The scanner runs through images of the previous Doctors beginning with William Hartnell.)

DOCTOR: What are you showing me that for? Man! Oh, man. Let's be honest. I was the best.
DOCTOR 13: Okay, let's say best male. But don't tell the others.
DOCTOR: What? How? How are you here?
DOCTOR 13: I know! I shouldn't be here at all. Cause and effect is getting a little bit out of order.
DOCTOR: Well, I'm surprised it's not the other guy. He is always turning up.
DOCTOR 13: (channelling 2nd Doctor) You've redecorated. I don't like it. Does it really need to be bigger in a room defined by its bigness?
DOCTOR: But why are you here?
DOCTOR 13: I've been popped out, like popped out of my timeline because there's a great big time schism on its way, caused by you.
DOCTOR: Time needs to be shifted, Doctor. So I am going to punch a ton of regeneration energy into the Vortex to jolt it one degree.
DOCTOR 13: Giving your life.
DOCTOR: A life for a life. Because I saved the world at the expense of one person, and that is no world at all.
DOCTOR 13: There won't be any worlds. If you rupture the Time Vortex, you could damage the whole of creation.
DOCTOR: Is that why you're here? To stop me?
DOCTOR 13: Nah, that was never going to work. Blimey, you're gorgeous. Your face is absolutely beautiful.
DOCTOR: Well, it will be our last one if I get this wrong.
DOCTOR 13: Don't get it wrong, then.
DOCTOR: Good idea. This is going to eat my soul. No chance of bi-generation.
DOCTOR 13: No chance of what?
DOCTOR: Oh. Never mind. Forget I said anything. Just, this is going to hurt.
DOCTOR 13: Try shifting your third strand of phenotype markers one micro-spasm to the left. Just might help.
DOCTOR: Oh, that is clever. But hold on. I'm older than you. Why didn't I know that?
DOCTOR 13: You know, it's all a bit...
BOTH: Timey-wimey.
DOCTOR 13: Is that still a thing?
DOCTOR: Going strong.
DOCTOR 13: We never change. All these faces, and we never really change.
DOCTOR: Oh, man.
DOCTOR 13: You scared?
DOCTOR: Terrified.
DOCTOR 13: Don't go in fear. Go with that lovely smile.
DOCTOR: I just wish we... we had longer.
DOCTOR 13: May we always wish that.

(The TARDIS switches lights off.)

DOCTOR 13: We're stretching the timeline too far. I've got to go, back to my old life. Bye, then. Good luck.
DOCTOR: I love you, Doctor.
DOCTOR 13: I never say things like that.
DOCTOR: That's why you got me.
DOCTOR 13: I should say that to Yaz.
DOCTOR: You never do. But she knows.

(13th Doctor starts flickering.)

DOCTOR 13: Goodbye, Doctor.
DOCTOR: Goodbye, Doctor.

(He psyches himself up for a forced regeneration. Once the energy starts flowing, he aims it at the Time Rotor and console. A mirror shatters.)

[Garden]

(He wakes up lying on the grass. His hand is still glowing.)

DOCTOR: Huh... Oh. No. Not yet. Not yet.

(Blows it out like a match. The TARDIS is parked next to him.)

BELINDA: Here he is. Bad penny. Come on then, mystery man. Where have you been?
DOCTOR: Oh, I would love to be called Bad Penny. But what...? What happened?
BELINDA: You were there, and then you were gone. Come on. She's waiting.
DOCTOR: Who is?
BELINDA: Poppy.

[Belinda's home]

DOCTOR: Poppy! Oh! Oh, Poppy, Poppy, Poppy, Poppy, Poppy! Oh! Oh...
BELINDA: Isn't she beautiful?
DOCTOR: The best. How could I forget? Remind me, what er... what happened again? I was with you and then...
BELINDA: Well, we stopped the Rani. And then all of UNIT got busy all of a sudden, and I turned around and you'd gone. And I had to get back home because that was the point. All this time, I had to be here in this house at 7:30am on the 24th of May, remember? I kept telling you, every time we landed.
BELINDA [faux Robot Revolution]: Doctor, I told you, get me home. 24th of May, 2025. I need to get back for Poppy.

(Actually it was for her shift at 0730. We never heard anything about Poppy.)

BELINDA [after Lux]: Never mind Miami. Poppy's waiting for me.
BELINDA [faux The Well]: My daughter. Will I ever see her again?
BELINDA [faux various]: Never mind happy new year. I've got to be home for Poppy on May the 24th. If I'm not back by 7:30, I'm in trouble. I can't wait for you to meet Poppy. She's so cheeky.
DOCTOR: So you were... You were always coming home for Poppy.
BELINDA: Exactly. I got taken away by the Robots on the 23rd, and for my timeline to get back to normal, I had to be here for Poppy on the 24th of May at 7:30am.
DOCTOR: But why 7:30?
LAKSHMI: Right. Better be off. Oh! Bit early for gentleman callers, Belinda. But he's a nice one.
BELINDA: This is my mum, Lakshmi.
DOCTOR: Oh, hello. I have heard so much about you.
LAKSHMI: Oh!
BELINDA: And this is, er, one of the doctors from the hospital.
LAKSHMI: At last. I keep telling her to bring home a doctor.
BELINDA: Amma!
LAKSHMI: No, no, no, no, no, not for you. For me, Doctor.
DOCTOR: Oh.
LAKSHMI: You see, I have this pain down my left side every time I turn corners. It's really...

(Thank you, Douglas Adams and Marvin the Paranoid Android. Car horn outside.)

LAKSHMI: Oh! Ah ha! That's for me. I've got to go. I've got a concert in Manchester.
DOCTOR: Oh, good luck.
LAKSHMI: Lovely meeting you.
DOCTOR: You as well.
LAKSHMI: Bye, sweetheart.
BELINDA: Bye.
LAKSHMI: Bye, Poppy, love. Mwah! Mwah! Bye, bye.
DOCTOR: So you... you had to come home because your mother...
BELINDA: I'm on nights, so Mum and Dad had Poppy. I had to be back for 7:30...
DOCTOR: Because Manchester.
BELINDA: You really have forgotten, haven't you? I'm glad you managed to find us, so you can finally meet. Poppy. This is Uncle Doctor.
DOCTOR: I'm her uncle?
BELINDA: Well, I thought it sounded nice.
DOCTOR: Who's her father?
BELINDA: I've told you.
DOCTOR: Remind me.
BELINDA: Her father's Ritchie. Ritchie Akingbola.
BELINDA [faux Lux]: I've known him since I was 21. We got together and... well, Poppy was born. We're not together any more. We both wanted different things. But he's a lovely man. He sees her all the time. He's a good soul. You'd like him.
DOCTOR: I hope Ritchie Akingbola knows how lucky he is... to be the father of a girl who is...

(Scans Poppy with the sonic.)

DOCTOR: Ah. One hundred percent human, since the day she was born.
BELINDA: What else would she be?
DOCTOR: Nothing. Nothing. Poppy the human. Always and forever. All is well with the universe.

(Lakshmi comes back in.)

LAKSHMI: I thought I had those grips. You know, the ones for my hands. Have you seen them?
BELINDA: I saw Dad trying them out. I think they're under the stairs. Hold on.
DOCTOR: Hello, Pops. Can I tell you a secret? I can't have children. But if I could, I wish that she was exactly like you. Except I brought all the wishes to an end. Clever old me.
BELINDA: There we go.
DOCTOR: Hey.
BELINDA: You all right?
DOCTOR: Yeah. Yeah. Just, you know, thinking. The gods play tricks. But I beat them. I always win.
BELINDA: Thank you. For everything. You've driven me absolutely mad. But I've got to say, you're the most amazing man in the world.
DOCTOR: That sounds like a goodbye.
BELINDA: Mmm. I wish we could come with you. I'd love to show Poppy the stars, but you know what happens next. She'll be shot at by lasers or hunted by cartoons or blown up by mad Time Ladies. I can't do that to her.

[Garden]

DOCTOR: It's been an honour, Miss Belinda Chandra. An honour, a nightmare and a triumph.
BELINDA: Maybe when she's grown up, you could come back? Take me to Neptune?
DOCTOR: I'd like that.
BELINDA: I'd love that. But will you? Will I ever see you again? Or do you never go back?
DOCTOR: I hope you'll see me again. But not like this.
BELINDA: What does that mean?
DOCTOR: I've got to go.
BELINDA: Just... why does it feel like there's something I've forgotten?
DOCTOR: That's our lives, Belinda. We travel in and out of the slipstreams of time. Beautiful things can be forgotten and gone. But they still happened... somewhere. I think one thing remains. I love you. And I love you, Pops. That will never change.

(Poppy waves goodbye as he goes into the TARDIS and it dematerialises.)

[TARDIS]

DOCTOR: I don't want to do this alone.

(The TARDIS powers down as he opens the doors and speaks to the universe in general and one bright star in particular.)

DOCTOR: I'm never alone with you. Joy to the world!

(Regeneration energy starts to flow.)

DOCTOR: And that is exactly the word. This has been an absolute joy.

(The energy bursts out into the cosmos as he transforms into a familiar blonde woman previously known as...)

"ROSE TYLER": Oh, hello!
