This is part of a series of reviews of Doctor Who in chronological timeline order. Previous Story: The Perfect Prisoners - Part 1 Now that is how you do a series finale. We get the conclusion to the Ann Kelso/Anya Kingdom story arc, not that it really existed before this two-parter given how little she was an actual fleshed out character before this. I will say having a companion turn on the Doctor makes for a good story, even if she was under control. And the resolution to the story is just brilliant to hear unfold. The Dream Machine makes for some really tense writing and brilliant twists, it feels like a few Mission Impossible scenes where they reveal everyone is wearing a mask, the idea of altering people's perception so that you can use them as slaves is just so fascinating and fits the Bond-villain Syndicate so well. This two parter as a whole feels like The Daleks' Master Plan meets James Bond with some general Doctor Who sci-fi stuff mixed in. Next Story: The Ribos Operation Series Review: 6/10 I can't say I liked this series that much, it feels to me like they came up with this two-parter first and then realised they needed to make a series leading up to it, and that led to Ann Kelso being one of the most boring companions I've encountered so far. There were a few good stories in this set but I think there were so many missed opportunities, I really wish they'd put a bit more effort into Tom Baker stories because when they do it well, they do it well. thedefinitearticle63 View profile Like Liked 0 26 May 2025 · 25 words Review by Rock_Angel 1 It’s a perfect finale to this series 4th shows a lot of emotion and probs the most connected I’ve been with him on my marathon Rock_Angel View profile Like Liked 1 17 June 2025 · 224 words Review by Five_Hundredth_Drax 1 Original (Russian) Translation (English) "Генеральный план Синдиката", части 7-8. "The General Plan of the Syndicate", parts 7-8. Here it is. The finale. And, as you can see, who wrote it, it's clear that the season ended with a BANG. You know, I was worried that I wouldn't understand anything, because I devoured this season in a week, and as for reading the novelisation of "The General Plan of the Daleks", I couldn’t get past three pages. But you know... everything was clear. It's necessary for the full picture, but what I heard, I really liked. K9 here gets to participate in a shootout and make fun of other, more primitive robots, and Ann unfolds fully here, because her storyline is very interesting. I mean, she's no longer Ann Kelso, she's... Anya Kingdom! And her farewell to the Doctor was very touching ( I adore Anya. The plot was also very intriguing, where the eponymous Syndicate finally appeared, and I liked how they were portrayed - even with a common plan, they plot against each other and put sticks in the wheels. They don't trust each other at all, and because of that, they get hit. This season was splendid. I can't wait to continue and start the next arc, but before that, I'll have to listen to another play. And "The General Plan of the Daleks" I'll finish reading some other time. Oh, and also - I liked this season so much that after what I have next on the list, I intend to binge two more seasons of the Fourth. Yes, I have Tom Baker on the brain, and I'm not planning on curing it. (Translation generated by AI, so mistakes are possible). Five_Hundredth_Drax View profile Like Liked 1
